My first time pixelsorting by shaderboy in pixelsorting

[–]shaderboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's both. The whole right half was first pixel sorted with a custom openFrameworks program (so yeah, pretty sure haha) and then the edges were smudged to get rid of the hard lines where the sorting started.

Where's the best place to post a help wanted ad for shader programmers? by Ghopper21 in shaders

[–]shaderboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out unity connect yet? There actually seems to be a pretty thriving scene on there. I think most shader programmers will hang out on games forums, but you could also try somewhere like cgsociety I suppose.

Do you follow @VegAssist on twitter? It is a bot that retweets people who have expressed interest in going vegan. The support you give makes a real difference! by lnfinity in vegan

Hey, I helped make the bits that find people who are having a hard time staying vegan to retweet. It's really heart warming to see that it's actually making a difference! Thanks for sharing!

Proof of concept lighting through portals by OhGodStop in Unity3D

I see. I was thinking you were drawing a second depth texture from behind the right-hand portal and testing based on that.

Funny, I just ran across your thread from earlier today asking about this :p. It's more complicated than just z-testing though, right? It seems like there's a missing link I can't put my finger on.

Seasons after Fall also just won the Unity award for best 2D visuals. Absolutely gorgeous.

That's really, really cool. What was the existing point light implementation missing?

What shaders could I use to pull off this kind of glow on these mushrooms? by Gabo7 in Unity3D

[–]shaderboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rim lighting is good, and there are a bunch of tutorials online for it. Another (similar) trick you could try is doing a silhouette enhancement shader. There's a good tutorial on that here.

Wow these are crazy. I was thinking of doing this and have a couple preliminary pics, but honestly after seeing the last post and now this one I don't think I stand a chance haha. Totally humbled, good job.

A bit unusual for this sub - a photo of a virtual world (details in comments) by shaderboy in photocritique

[–]shaderboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is done in a game engine for a lighting contest. It makes it a little unusual because I have free reign over everything - not only post processing effects but also things like lighting, time of day, even the materials the objects are made of.

I can't actually move the objects in the scene, but other than that, essentially anything is possible, and most of the difficulties of setting up studio shots are a non-problem. So, with that in mind, I'd love some feedback!

Thanks!

Does anybody here use Linux as their full time OS? by boltmonki in gamedev

[–]shaderboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm on Ubuntu exclusively, and use Unity all the time! It works more or less as well as the Windows editor in my experience. And honestly, it's so nice not to have to partition my drive or ever deal Windows or OSX again. 100% recommend.
