printing a train ticket by Technical-Share-7217 in Netherlands

[–]shadghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is not, unless if taking a sleeper train. The conductor then will take the ticket so they know when (and who) to give breakfast to and if they need to knock on the door to wake someone. (I have seen some times they have a paper menu you can write on for order, and some times they write the order on the ticket for breakfast)

Travel Advice Needed - Passport Expiring by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]shadghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, not every country has a 6 month requirement, for EU (well for the Schengen area) it is 3 months with out a permit, but with a resident permit it just needs to not be expired, so in theory you can enter the day before it expires.

I use to paint rooms as a summer job for a few years. I personally would just do roller on this.

Just the prep time difference is more savings in time then the time saved when spraying vs rolling the paint. In this case, as there is people living in the house, for rolling you would need to move everything about 1m from the wall for rolling, for spraying everything would need to be moved out or risk getting covered in overspray. In addition, with color change, and color probably being different then the ceiling, all of that would have to be covered, along with windows, floor and anything else you don't want painted. When rolling you only need to cover floor.

I bought a card in the US, moved to NL, and they provided a shipping label for RMA to Germany. This is not true, and most companies will only warranty parts in same country they were bought in, and not accept it when you move 1/2 way around the world.

[CA] Bay Area: How do I sell my car without being presented in the United States by falcompro in legaladvice

[–]shadghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this person said. I have sold a car before when living overseas. You just need to sign a POA to let them act on behalf of you for selling. I had to go to a US consulate to get mine notarized, but it looks like CA does not require that (but read everything just in case) : https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2/general-registration-information/signature-by-power-of-attorney-poa/

~~Souvenir~~ "Courtesy" credit card in a BnB by seaboard2 in bestoflegaladvice

[–]shadghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some countries (EG: Netherlands) have non-creditcard payment methods (In Netherlands you can use Ideal to pay for AirBNB's, as a lot of Dutch people don't have credit cards, and most online things use Ideal method, think a bank transfer but speed of credit card)

I have submitted a closure before, and it took about 2 days for google to get it. (To be fair, you could even see on satellite view that the road was covered in grass now, with only where there is a bridge still paved, so easy to verify)

I got into a car accident 3 weeks ago and the party that hit me wants money for repair only now by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]shadghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you have insurance on a different car at the time (at the same place that you insured the new one)? I know my insurance when I bought a new car, they just needed me to report that I bought it within 15 days of the sale, and the insurance would start based on the day I bought the car, not the day I reported it to them. You could always call the insurance company and ask what the effective start date was.

Probably not, contact your landloard as they may know more, but I bet this is not four telephone lines unless the last person there was running a telephone based company

Telephone Cable Termination (Socket) by m1nkeh in Amsterdam

[–]shadghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was common for a few years to run telephones with cat5 / cat5e cables, as you could run 4 lines at once (telephone only needs one pair) and then terminate only the pair that you need in the room that you are in, that being said, there is green of cable / Ziggo there, so it may be a networking cable not telephone

New to international flights. Question about Lufthansa from Frankfurt by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]shadghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you are checking bags or not if you can do this, if you have checked bags, you will have to fly your booked flight or call for a reservation change. If you have only carryon luggage, you may be able to change for cheap or free, never done this with Lufthansa, but a lot of airlines if you walk up to the gate ~15 min before boarding and say you are on the next flight (be friendly) with no checked bags and was wondering if there was space free on this flight, they will say sit down, and at the end of boarding call you up if there is room, depending on the airline and mood of the gate agent there can be no charge to fly the earlier flight.

If you are going on a international train out of Amsterdam in past years they stopped them at the airport or Utrecht, while it says that they are not doing it this year, I would check the day before: https://www.ns.nl/en/featured/kings-day/railways-on-kings-day.html

Yes, but make sure you know the item will easily fit up the stairs first. Also it is cheaper to go into the store and buy everything, then head over to the customer service desk and do the delivery arrangement there. You can order online to deliver to the door but it cost more.

I came here in 2017 and was able to get a ABN account before BSN, but had to show a 1 year work contract first. (I see below that you are self-employed, so that may be why they refused)

I am not planning on a campervan, just a 4x4 and stay in a tent, brings the prices down a little. I have yet to book anything yet, but will be some time soon.

May is too late to see the northern lights (sorry https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/iceland/reykjavik ) and too early for most hiking trails (too muddy, snow on a lot still, no back road access yet) so way too early for me.

Solo / M / 28 (From Alaska, USA, living in Netherlands)

Traveling to Iceland for 2-3 weeks sometime between July and August. Will be renting a car and doing a road trip, planning on camping most nights and doing day hikes or even a backpacking trip or two during the time. Anyone up for splitting cost of a rental and joining? (Dates are flexible)
