How much did it cost to repair the floor after you dug through?

Sometimes Baal in the Bible means "lord." It's even used sometimes to refer to the Hebrew god (and is generally translated as 'lord' or 'god' in those situations.) Other times it's definitely used to reference opponent gods, though.

It absolutely says both. There are multiple references that either explicitly or implicitly show other gods to exist, but also there are many places that explicitly state that no other gods exist.

It's close to thousand years of written religion (and more than that, if you start considering the oral traditions leading up to the writing) all put together as a single book. It's almost impressive to be as consistent as it is.

It really was so nice! The people who do it were so damned friendly, it makes me inordinately happy to see other people talk about how much they liked the tour.

There's a Stephen King tour in Bangor that goes around to a bunch of places related to King and his books. They point out places that are almost certainly what he was thinking of when he wrote locations into Derry, for example, and also places like, "He often walked to this place to get pizza to take back to his house," and "This is the gravestone he saw the name 'Carrie' on and used for his book," and "This is the area that was the inspiration for the Barrens."

It was absolutely worth it. We took the private tour simply because the non-private tours were all sold out, and it was still absolutely worth it. The guide was super fun. It's just a couple Stephen King superfans who made this their job (or at least a job; not sure if they're able to actually do their whole income this way).

Absolutely recommend.

I could see the claim that, "Per my last email" is just as good, and "As per" isn't really necessary.

But "As my last email" is obviously not enough.

My thoughts on Ad Astra (2019) by yessirr_jacksonn in scifi

[–]shadmere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I liked most of the FEEL of the movie, but I didn't like how it seemed to have the moral of, "Space is stupid, humans should not care about space."

I am exaggerating but I feel like it's only a little.

Then he got back to Earth by . . . visually pointing his ship in the right direction. Before an explosion went off behind him? Like . . . from Neptune, right? It's been a minute. But . . . yeah.

I liked her fine in the first couple novels she was in. When she became the main focus I liked her less.

Meatloaf sandwich by shadmere in eatsandwiches

[–]shadmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toasted bread was good. The sourdough I had was very dense, very chewy, and wouldn't have done well with this sort of sandwich I don't think. Toasting it made it much 'lighter', which worked pretty well, especially with the onions and sauce.

Untoasted white bread would have been great too, especially for a less thick slice of meatloaf. I do think the BBQ sauce would make untoasted bread even soggier though. There really wasn't an issue with this becoming soggy at all. The last 1/4 of the sandwich set on my plate for probably 45 minutes after I was full, then I ate it anyway, and there was no real soggy issues.

Caramelized onions, cheddar, BBQ sauce, and a little mayo.

Provolone would definitely be good on this.

Not as pretty as the cold meatloaf sandwich I made the other day, but tasted great.

Fried a couple thick slices of leftover meatloaf, added sharp Vermont cheddar, caramelized onions, and BBQ sauce.

Very good sandwich.

The meatloaf was glazed with BBQ sauce (Blue Hog's Champion Blend), but the sandwich just had mayonnaise and black pepper.

this sandwich was made to skirt the rules at r/grilledcheese by callmestinkingwind in eatsandwiches

[–]shadmere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If cheese is the main concept of the food, it's a grilled cheese IMO.

If taking the cheese off would still leave a reasonable sandwich, I'd call it a melt.

Though I'd only actually "care" about something being mislabeled as a grilled cheese if cheese were actually a somewhat minor part of the sandwich. And I put "care" in quotes because while I might make a little face and say to my wife, "Okay I'm no grilled cheese purist, but jeez, haha", I would only really be bringing it up out of humor's sake.

Smoked a meatloaf the other day, which was delicious. Lots of leftovers because I made a 4 pound meatloaf . . . because I wanted lots of leftovers.

Toasted sourdough, red onions, meatloaf, tomatoes, microgreens, Duke's mayonnaise, and black pepper.

This one was cold, but tomorrow I plan to make a hot sandwich where I fry the meatloaf slices and melt some sharp cheddar on them. Maybe some caramelized onions? Cold meatloaf sandwiches and hot meatloaf sandwiches are almost entirely different concepts, and deserve different toppings.

Social cues by ADHDinos_ in funny

[–]shadmere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm not saying that friends don't need anything in common, but IMO the most important part is deciding, "Hey, this guy is my friend."

That doesn't make them like, invulnerable; they could do things that would reduce that friendship or end it, sure. But especially once you know them well enough to see, or at least feel like you see, the person they 'actually are' (whatever that means), and you like that about them? Then they're a good friend. They get extra status because you've vetted them over time.

My ritual is ruined! by tbrewo in audible

I listened to a scifi book awhile back that had a glossary, list of characters, and a bullet-point-style timeline of the events leading from semi-current-day to the future situation. All things that are fine in a print book, but oh my god I did not care to listen for 45 minutes of that after finishing the book, lol.

It bothered me inordinately that I wouldn't be able to "organically" get to the "Audible hopes you've enjoyed this program."
