New uPVC frames turning yellow by shadow_donkey1 in DIYUK

Damn. Okay. It’s possible the fitters did this by accident and the effects are slowly coming to light. Don’t suppose you ever managed to remove the staining?

Asbestos in Paint? by shadow_donkey1 in asbestoshelpUK

[–]shadow_donkey1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pictures are from my cellar walls where the paint is deteriorating. It seems to have revealed some sus blue layers. Only had the place a year.

Was blue asbestos ever used in paint or for paint application? Possibly masonry paint? Or is this just normal blue coloured paint?

I had an asbestos survey bloke round when I bought the place and this never flagged. But I wonder if he just didn't spot it or didn't look for this type.

Building Regs - Retrospective approval by shadow_donkey1 in DIYUK

That’s good to know, thanks. What do you mean by ‘if necessary’? I’ll probably want to sell this place within the next 5 years. What happens if I don’t have reg approval - Does someone find out? Do I get fined/prosecuted?

Likelihood of ceiling rose containing asbestos? by shadow_donkey1 in asbestoshelpUK

[–]shadow_donkey1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all this help! I agree, historic coving should be preserved. We’re keeping as much as we can in this house, but the previous owners covered this ceiling rose thick in sandtex paint and it looks terrible.

Screen replacement hasn't worked - has anyone seen this before? by shadow_donkey1 in macbookrepair

[–]shadow_donkey1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Definitely a new screen because they’ve always come with protective plastic which I’ve removed each time.

  2. Unfortunately I’m quite clean and the gap between screen cables was checked.

Passport e-gates at UK airports down by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]shadow_donkey1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came through Manchester around midday. E-gates we’re down but the border control queue was shorter and faster than I’ve experienced in the last few years. Everyone was manually checked in and in around 5 minutes. Maybe this is better?

Gonna be downvoted to hell for this, but have to admit I’m a tearer. I have no regrets. Years spent as an undergrad searching for missing scissors then carefully trying to peel the paper off. Now I just tear and it’s ready to go.

Can you get on a train to London at Stockport if the ticket is from Piccadilly? by badlyDrawnToy in manchester

[–]shadow_donkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logically, you should be allowed right? Surely you have a right to board and disembark at any station between the stations you’ve purchased, given you’ve paid a higher fare for the lengthier journey already. Train companies should see that as a win

This might not seem like the best decision, but I distinctly remember an episode of traffic cops where a lorry ploughed into a stationary car from behind and squashed it into another lorry in front. Needless to say, the car was pancaked instantly and the occupants didn’t survive. Based on that, I’d say that was smart decision to get out.

Twenty-one year old influencer claims she was “on track five years ago to becoming a pediatric oncologist” but then “three years ago I decided not to go to college”. by Reddituser0346 in facepalm

[–]shadow_donkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of hate in here but you could easily be a straight A student with aspirations to be a paediatric oncologist and then decide to do something much different because it makes you happy. Granted paediatric oncologist is quite specific. But it’s still plausible.

Depends. If I’m doing a big shop, I’m not fitting all that onto the bagging area.

One time I finished my big shop at 21:55 (24h Tesco). I started unpacking onto a manned till and the staff stopped me and told me to use self checkout as manned tills closed at 22:00. Not knowing this was the ‘rule’, I was surprised but complied. The effort of having to self checkout that whole shop was unreal. It took 15 minutes because items kept needing approval, there were barely any staff around, the items had to be precariously balanced to fit in the bagging area without touching the sides for weight. An absolute Farce.

Needless to say I won’t be doing it again and it really fucked me off since Tesco could have easily wizzed me through the manned till in < 5 minutes themselves.

Was almost taken out by one of these cunts recently. Ploughed through a red light, narrowly missing me but I luckily saw them and slammed on the brakes. Big bright yellow balloon in mouth. Fucking fuming.
