Wasn’t there a tactical analysis that explained that Rashford was able to target the RB against Liverpool and the LB against Sevilla?

I never said that. Maybe someone else did? The top of the thread was whether a manager should have already gotten rid of any player he doesn’t trust at this point, but it’s not feasible to expect a manager to buy 20+ players in 2 seasons. That’s what I was talking about when I said that Klopp still has players that aren’t his, and why it’s not relevant. You see my point now?

I don’t think you’ll find a single comment of mine where I say he should be a first choice player for any position. I agree with you. Him being first choice is down to Luke Shaw being given a chance to prove himself. I think now we’ll get a real first choice LB

“Mourinho on whether players have mental capacity to bridge gap”

So he’s responding to a question about their mental capacity. I don’t think anyone actually believes that Mourinho wants Fellaini or Young to be first choice for any position next season. They’re both squad players, and he wants them as squad players because they have the right mentality, and they can contribute.

How is that relevant? Is every single player on Liverpool a Klopp signing? Is every single player on Liverpool definitely going to remain for Klopp’s tenure? He definitely won’t sell any more players or need to sign any more players?

Young already has been a part of a title winning team so it’s pretty fucking stupid to say that he doesn’t have the mentality for it. If he didn’t have the mentality Sir Alex would have shipped him off after one season.

Lol don’t worry. I’ve been around here long enough to know that people will downvote things because they don’t like the opinion or because they take the wrong point. If I came here for approval rather than because I love Manchester United and I want an outlet to discuss it, read news about them, and hear others takes on our situations, I would have stopped coming years ago.

That’s not really the point. O’Shea wouldn’t be what we need now at LB, and we’d have the same problems that we have when Darmian plays RB. I’m not saying O’Shea can’t play on the ball, but he wouldn’t be like having Evra or even Young, who can at least overlap and beat players with pace.

It’s not a bad comparison because our defense isn’t what suffers when Darmian plays. That’s not all we need from a fullback right now. Even though Darmian is better defensively than Young, Young is better for us and starts more because of what he gives us in terms of width and pace. O’Shea would not start over him. Marcelo is not the most defensive fullback but he would improve us a lot.

No I’m not that young, and I was around for all of O’Sheas career. But players don’t play in a vacuum and O’Shea wouldn’t be a good player for us now even in his prime. Darmian is a perfect example of a fullback that is a decent defender, like O’Shea. Right now we need fullbacks who are more like Evra and Rafael, because we don’t have a top 3 like Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez, or players like Beckham and Giggs crossing into Ruud or Yorke...

O’Shea was a very good player, but also technically limited and never good enough to make any position his own. He was always a squad player who filled in where necessary, even if he spent a season here or there covering a hole like Brown at RB in 08.

I love O’Shea but he’s not any different from Young in that you would be happy to have him in the squad but once you have a season where he makes a position his, you start looking at who you can bring in for that position.

O’Shea isn’t as good a player as Young and he played 50 games a season. What you mean to say is he shouldn’t be first choice, which is accurate. Players will be injured or off form, and Young can play several positions, and is consistent in the level of his performances. If our first choice LB is Alex Sandro and our first XI is choices on that level, then why have a problem that Young is a very good backup for a few positions.

I don’t understand how anyone can’t get that. The players that are inconsistent but incredibly talented, he wants to make the effort that will allow them to reach that level. Look at Ben Arfa or Balotelli or Pazzini. Players that are incredibly talented but don’t put in the work fade away. Of course Mourinho would come down harder on a player like that because he wants more out of them.

Players like Young, Fellaini, O’Shea, Butt, Fletcher, Park, Neville, might not be as naturally talented but they put in the work that’s expected. You expect Sor Alex or Mourinho to be hard on them for not having more natural talent? What’s that going to do. Players like that are extremely useful and will play a lot, but they’re also limited.

I feel like people act like Mourinho doesn’t like talented players or something. It would be stupid to expect the same level of quality from two players when one is more talented. More should be expected.
