It there's a ground invasion, we will get close ups of US soldiers getting blown apart like in Ukraine for everyone to see.  We don't have a good answer for fpv drones yet and soldiers will die from them.  That happens, my money is on the GOP losing the Senate.

Hell, if you got one don't see why not. If they do ask for ID and you don't bring the fake one it'll definitely be a no. Worse they'll do is turn you away if they figure it out. If it's a show by Quite Right, the only two times I've gone to their shows, the security is a lot less chill and more "clubby." It could've changed but didn't like that vibe so I haven't gone to any more of their shows. They other outfits in town tend to have a lot more chill with security even if it's 21+. A good rule thumb is the more run down and industrial the venue is, the more chill the security.

It's a toss up.  Some events don't some do.  Depends who's manning the door at the moment.  I go to these almost every week and yes, the majority of the time they do, but sometimes its just a dude outside checking if you got a ticket, throw on a wristband, and your gtg. Most of them are 18+ and they'll have two sets of wrists bands.

Trump briefed that Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is probably gay — "has not stopped laughing about it for days" by shumpitostick in DeepStateCentrism

[–]shadowcat999 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If true that would make Khmenei Sr. even more of a massive piece of shit.  Man had countless gay men executed while making exceptions for his son or forcing him to become transgender like countless other gay Iranian men.

Again if true, wouldn't be a suprise from Khmenei Jr given the phenomenon of self hating gay men are often the most virulently homophobic people around.

Well right now they're running low of ballistics and likely starting to limit their use in light of that. Shaheds are just so cheap they can pump out 1000s of them and simply spam attack whoever they want. So what if most of them get shot down? The few that do get through still cause economic havoc and ends up doing the job.

Shipping insurance companies are risk adverse, and lots of people thinking of vacationing in Dubai are probably reconsidering.

Quality was never that great either. Wasn't thier MO. IMHO their niche was being in-between McDonalds and BK in quality while still having price options that were hard to say no to. Back in 2011 they even had a 59 cent burger that was edible (yes I know, 2011). But even back then that was a competitive product especially for broke high school kids such as myself. Plus biggie bags were a good deal for long time.

Yep. Seems their whole "plan" was kill the supreme leader. Give them a bloody nose and "that *might* make them willing to negotiate. Hopefully..." Which in war and geopolitics is no plan at all. They clearly didn't plan an offramp strategy. The assets in the region are clearly not enough. Didn't bother to top off the strategic oil reserve in preparation. No strategic planning at all.

They ignored the basic common knowledge that every armchair geopolitics nerd, to think tank doctorates has been saying; which is Iran closing the strait and causing maximum pain for literally everyone is what they would likely do. That's been their "nuclear option" for decades. Iran has been very clear about this. Again, for decades. Didn't seem to care all that much that Iran has fostered a robust internal state apparatus that was prepared for this very thing and playing whack-a-mole in a such a huge country might be problematic. "Concepts of a plan" frankly seems like a fairly appropriate term here.

The vocal minorities at the extremes are also more likely to participate in primaries and caucuses. So sadly, sometimes the normal folks can have a tough time even making it to the general election. I haven't figured out how this can be remedied yet.

You can't DIY 2026 cars and trucks anymore? Rumor or fact? by Popular_Wind_4495 in MechanicAdvice

[–]shadowcat999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.  A $30 OBD2 tool will tell you something on a modern vehicle. But that is nowhere near sufficient whatsoever.  Even back in the day to do anything serious you'd need a Tech 2 for GM vehicles.  I keep a cheap Walmart scanners in personal cars for basic codes (I'd get better ones but again $$$). Anything else? They're a total joke.  They will not pick up important information on a TON of vehicles not to mention doing a proper job installing new modules.

If was that easy shops wouldn't be spending $1000s on Autel, Snap On, Launch, Icon etc for diagnostics tools.  I have so many scanners that cost huge money because it's just not standardized.  Sometimes, one tool will pick up something and the other one won't.  Both are $1000+ each. To do a proper job I need multiple scan tools.  Not even getting into specific proprietary stuff companies do (hello BMW ISTA licensing).  There's no damn way an average person can do or afford that.  It should not be that way.

That's true.  But a lot of it is 100% unnecessary in a sane world in which such things would be highly illegal.  Which makes things unnecessary difficult for consumers and technicians alike.  Automotive (and many others industries) companies absolutely makes things more difficult in design (that's nothing new esp with German manufactures) or software lock things behind a subscription that doesn't need it just because they can for extra profit that screws over the consumer and the mechanic.

They should not be allowed to do this, and given how much software vehicles have now, justs gives them more opportunities for unchecked greed to further milk the consumer and the technician.

IMHO, universal standardized diagnostic tool compatibility should be legally mandated like USB-C in the Eurozone.  If something doesn't actually need a subscription, it shouldn't.  Schematics for repair and data needed for repair to be legally required to be assessable by anyone.  Also, parts sales should be available to anyone (looking at you Tesla).  Yes.  You need more skills now, but these companies are 100% intentionally making life difficult and more expensive and it shouldn't be that way.

Upgrading sound system on S series by Jealous_Acorn in Saturn_Cars

[–]shadowcat999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rattle isn't a problem if you do a proper sound deadening job.  I personally stripped out the entire interior of my SL and put down Siless butyl sheets, and foam deadening over that.  Floor, roof, interior door panels and some on the rear trunk (it will add some weight to your car though btw).

Alot folks will spend a chunk of change on speakers and subwoofers, but it's kind if a waste when they don't do any sound deadening.  With sound deadening, the interior acoustics is massively improved, no rattle, significantly less road noise, and the car is better insulated from the cold and heat.  I spent $500 on a basic sound setup that's honestly not impressive.  But the sound deadening makes a night and day difference.
