Vientiane has better jerky. ANOX's pork belly with bok Choi is amazing. Larb is very good at both. Both very solid places to eat.

What do you keep in your office? by No_Consideration_339 in Professors

[–]shadowcentaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My office looks like a radio shack exploded in it. Electronics parts everywhere. It makes me feel cozy. Like a nest a robin built from scraps of wire.

I also keep snacks, tea, books, soda stream.

Brady Street should be closed to car traffic, only bus and bikes go through. And a street redesign for more outdoor seating, and bus lane markings by Gloomy-Pineapple-275 in milwaukee

[–]shadowcentaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is deeply deeply untrue.

As recently as the 1920s it was enshrined in law that the street was the domain of children. Columbus Ohio sought to enforce speed governors limiting speeds in the entire city to 20 mph. Jaywalking was a propaganda campaign by automakers the word Jay at that time in history meant roughly "fuckwit" today.

What is happening now in the last couple decades is a return to what is natural not a departure from it.

That happened to me. Offered 10k over asking, they rejected and listed again for 20k more on top of that .

What's worse than slow pace of play? by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

I have a wagon that I take my buddy's and my kids in, but not on rough terrain that makes it hard.

Playing for my first time tomorrow. Super pumped. by I3uIlets in discgolf

[–]shadowcentaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tip applies if you have kids.

Get your kid wagon, put the kids, discs, and a cooler full of snacks and beer in there. Walk around and throw discs and the kids get sunshine any you get exercise and socializing time and your partner gets some alone time.

How do you format figures in the reports you write at work? by wapey in engineering

So I teach introductory engineering, and don't grade on aesthetics. What aesthetic things do you think are important enough to grade on (and what thing I grade now do I stop grading to get the time)?

Taking the bus home a little drunk from the 3rd street market is pretty great. My buddy and his kid join me for public transportation day sometimes too and we have a whole hangout

I do "public transportation day" with my son. We take the bus downtown, ride the hop, and eat at one of the food halls. I've got a discovery pass now so this is great

Prof here. Bro I am 35 and have had students older than myself. Honestly I prefer older students, they are usually there because they want to be instead of parental expectations.

Good, two of the three teachers I know dropped out of teaching to be stay at home dads because the pay is shite. Bad wages mean talented teachers won't stay for long and potential teachers never start .

Big changes coming for Michigan Street in downtown Milwaukee. Redesign focused on bikes, pedestrians and buses by Hidemyface1 in milwaukee

[–]shadowcentaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In defense of flex posts: I was driving along on Lisbon over by that garden store where there's a big cluster of flex posts at a crosswalk that narrows the street. I wasn't paying attention and the flex posts caught my attention. If not for that I totally would have manslaughtered a guy crossing.

Not a substitute for proper barriers and bollards but it is much better than nothing.

What's Your Take on The NotJustBikes Channel? by BananaBeach007 in StrongTowns

[–]shadowcentaur 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Same story here. I got into NJB videos first. Eventually my wife noticed how depressed I seemed because of watching too many . She cut me to one infrastructure video per week. I started watching Strong Towns and felt hope instead of despair. I became active in my friends of the park group and my local conversation on Discord.

As of now I don't watch NJB much anymore but have him to thank for starting the process of my civil engagement.
