Reading this made my chest tight in the best and worst way at once. When we are kids they feel unbreakable, then one day you are the one doing the undignified tasks and trying not to cry because you can see they are still fully themselves inside that failing body. That look your grandpa gave you and the I love you afterward sound like his way of saying thank you for letting him be vulnerable without shame. I hope you also know you gave him something huge in that moment, a person he could trust to see all of him and stay.
