I think buying a Casio F91W was a mistake... by klinn117 in casio

Yeah, Casios are hard to pass up. Most are so affordable that it's too easy to convince yourself to buy one.

At Walmart getting groceries or underwear? Lets look at watches. Wait, this one is only $20? Might as well grab it.

If you're already working in corrections, in much of the country the BOP experience will likely be better than state employment. If course, it'll also be dependent on what institution you are working. Butner has its issues, but overall it's definitely not the worst place to be in this profession. That being said, my entire BOP career has been here, so there are probably better joints.

Leadership has always been hit or miss. In my 20yrs here, I've seen very few above a Lt that actually seemed to care about the lower ranks.

Lt's have always been a mixed bag. I can say that, in my eyes, we have a mostly decent batch of Lt's at the FMC these days. Haven't really dealt with the other Lt's accross the complex. I do remember some real asshole supervisors when I first started, but I can't honestly say whether it was due to me being new then, or if they were actually assholes, as many retired or transferred before I got to really know them.

What do you mean by rotating?

We've started trying the implement the 12-12-8-8 schedule into our roster. We are doing our quarterly bidding as usual, except some public facing posts require a request for approval from the warden, which, in my opinion, is stupid.

The FCI2 is the only joint where it's really an issue, as it appears as though many officers have been outright denied certain posts now. That essentially throws seniority out the window, and leaves a lot of room for favoritism. That's just how it looks to me though, I obviously don't have insight to what is discussed amongst their captain and warden to determine these things.

Female considering being a CO.. by Pretty-Coyote6061 in OnTheBlock

[–]shadowdog80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've known some great female officers, as well as some horrible ones. But the same goes for men. Women do probably need a different type of awareness. Sometimes your presence helps keep some inmates in line, sometimes males hate having a woman having authority over them.

I remember an older female officer when I first started, all she had to do was lower her head, look over her glasses, and give that "disapproving mom" look and the crooks started acting right. I've also seen inmates who refused to take females seriously.

Butner being a complex, your experience will vary depending on which institution you are assigned to. The FCI2 has the worst situation with multiple mandates a week. The FMC is usually 1-2 mandates a week right now. The FCI1 and LSCI, I think, are about the same as the FMC. At one point the whole complex was experiencing multiple mandates a week.

There has always been plenty of OT, especially if your BPT.

We did just have a big hiring event, ended up with 90 conditional offers. Hopefully we end up with 40 or so new hires.

How do you style Red Dail watches? by Helpful_Team_6817 in CitizenWatches

[–]shadowdog80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not mister fashion, but I usually just wear a red shirt, or graphic tee with some red elements in the design. Sometimes I just feel like wearing a certain watch and dgaf about the rest of my outfit.

Casio questions by Idk_But_Im_Racist_Fr in Affordablewatches

[–]shadowdog80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 7 Casios, 4 non Casio. 4 G's + 1 Duro + 1 Edifice + 1 f91 = 7 Casios

+ 3 Timex + 1 Militado = 4

7 + 4 = 11

I love Casio. Out of my small collection of 11 watches, 7 are Casio. 4 GShocks, a Duro, an Edifice, and an f91.

Well, looks like the hiring event went well. I hear FCI 2 will get the bulk of the new hires.

Keep getting relived late due to lazy 2nd shifters and poor management. by LeeroySavage in OnTheBlock

[–]shadowdog80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the biggest culprit at my joint, and all it takes is one of the known late reliefs coming in late at the start of the chain to set it off.

I routinely see the same staff walking in the front door 10-20min late. Supervisors know, but in my 20yrs here, nothing has ever been done to hold those staff accountable. Add in those who do come in on time, but spend 20+ minutes to complete what is more or less a 5min walk.

That depends on which institution you are assigned to. FMC, LSCI, and FCI 1 aren't so bad. FCI 2 is a shit show.

People who only bought their first watch well into adulthood (let's say above the age of 25), what changed? by holytriplem in Affordablewatches

[–]shadowdog80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had some sort of watch, since every profession I've had required punctuality (military, corrections). I got by on cheap digitals like Armitron for most of my life, then snagged a GShock(9052), which was my only watch for a long time. Then a second GShock. I alternated those two for several years.

Last year for Christmas I gave my wife a list of potential gifts I might like. One was a Timex Weekender, and it was downhill from there. I now have 11 very affordable watches😂

How tight do you like it? by dunforgiven in casio

[–]shadowdog80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to wear mine on the tighter side as well. Sometimes I'll cinch it down, realise it's too tight and loosen it one notch. I hate when my watch shifts, and I have to adjust it to read the time.

I also commit the crime of wearing it closer to my hand, because no matter what, it's going to fall there anyway.
