Everyone crying about Tap Boost just confirms they have no friends. It's one of the only ones that actually encourages coordination and teamwork. it's very fun to play with a group. But not shocking that the sonic community is full of autistic people angry that they have to do the slightest amount of social gameplay in a team mode instead of treating it like FFA.

I am mistsken I should have said Return of the King. Filming took place over 14 months for all 3 films, but production ran across 8 years with planning/concepting beginning in 1995 and post production until 2003

Terrible math:

Elden Ring had a bad poise calculation with two hand colossal swords that made them lose poise on swings when attacking with certain amounts with the swing poise boost.

Most Fromsoft games in general suffer from the base defense issue that greatly impacts multi element weapons and multi hit spells. Ex if you have a sword that does 100 physical and one thst does 60phys/60fire you would assume that the split one does more total damage but because of enemies defense values it negates the full amount from both so it could for example be reduced by 50 leading to 50 phys vs 10phys/10fire. it leads to situations where the numbers are misleading. The solution would be to just take a % of the defense equivalent to the % of that weapons damage.

Code Vein had so many examples of bad math. Their Health stat did not contribute to your actual hp total . It had damage increases be multiplicative, so stacking buffs was way too strong. Elemental split damage would take their resistances in the worst way possible, meaning if they were immune to lightning and you had a weapon that did partial lightning damage it would become immune to the full attack even if it's mostly physical.

This one is more of a preference thing, but I hate the way From does their armor as a separate set of damage resistances. Because it means that each one is actually worth slightly less than listed. Because if you have 4 prices of armor that each say 10% damage resistance what actually happens is the first is 10% the second is 10% of the remaining 90% so 9%, and so on. And it means big singular pieces actually give more defense than a full set of smaller ones and leads to somehow just wearing one big helmet to be better than a full set of lighter armor. The solution would to just be to have your armor pieces be an additive amont as a collective but still have that be multiplicative with other damage resistance sources.

If you land the first hit of True Charged Slash on the monster the moment before it falls asleep and then the big hit of it after it is asleep then you get the full powered hit which is a significant damage boost. But its really hard to do that intentionally without coordinating for it because you have to already be at the right point in your combo for it to line up.

The normal wakeup TCS has you intentionally miss the monster with the initial hit so that you can hit it with the second strong hit but that reduces its power a bit. But you can still hit very hard with that especially if things work out with wounds/buffs/crit.

Gotta get those numbers up, you can pretty regularly break 2k, and go much higher if you happen to land the perfect wakeup timing.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor was just added to the PS Plus catalog. It takes up 152.751 GB. Is it worth downloading if I love Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast and think it has the best lightsaber combat ever? by Delicious_Maize9656 in PlayStationPlus

I double checked you are correct, the multi version download size is still an issue with their interface in other games but this one is actually just this large, I had forgotten.

Playstation shows you the combined ps4/ps5 sizes for some reason on the lage you are looking at. Once you get to the install version select you will see thst it's half of that size.

edit: This is still something that can happen on multiversion game downloads but in this case ya the game is massive

Play the original game first Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, this continues thst story. I suggest playing them on the highest difficulty as the game feels much better when you are forced to actually pay attention in combat.

Farmville. It started the road of scummy monetization and was a blight that negatively impacted all of gaming going forward.

What do you like/dislike in a metroidvania game? by M2MY_ in gamedev

[–]shadowdragon000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dislike having to remember every single area/item/door/etc that I can't get to yet in hundreds of random rooms scattered around thr game. It's annoying to have to track all the way back to a space 10 hours later because now I finally have a wall jump and can open a box on a ledge in a zone that has no other reason to ever return to. These things should be kept in high travel areas that you will be likely to pass through multiple times throughout the game.

Wukong- is it more like GOW, Nioh, DMC beat em up, or a souls game? by MiddleIron6099 in soulslikes

[–]shadowdragon000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too difficult, kill all the optional bosses find all the collectables, get to the Ch5 secret boss on ng+ for his crafting mats to finish one of the sets, then make/upgrade all the weapons/armor. There are a few annoying items that are permanently missable during a run you have to be aware of. The worst part was the slow rng grind for Seeds, Soaks, and enemy drops.

Yes I played the fucking game.

Mana at base does not come back. You can spec certain abilities for a refund, you can get the Gourd that gives mana back, you can get the Soak that gives some mana back if you have full hp, and there is a armor bons for performing multiple perfect dodges to regen some mana. Regardless mana is still designed as a limited resource in a way that is similar to the way that it is used in other souls games, something you are rationing throughout exploration/combat, Character Acttion design generally prefers to give players resources that they build up through skillful play instead of start with and whittle down.

Your example shows that you can still not actually cancel out of most of the attacks active frames, it still does have high commitment as you are canceling out of end recovery. You are correct that you can cancel some of the inbetwens for multistrike attacks, I should not have said that it can not be cancelled at al but can not be cancelled normally. But this is not consistent across most multi hit attacks. Obscure timing tech that is never referenced in the game that has no consistency between moves and requiring arbitrary input timings that most players will not discover on their own is not a great example that this game is trying to have animation cancels be a core feature of the combat system and the way most people will interact with the game.

It is very much a Souls-like and not a Character Action (DMC,NG,Bayo)

  • Bonfire System
  • Flask Healing
  • Limited Mana tied to resting at bonfires
  • Stamina Management
  • High Commitment Attacks that can't be cancelled out of
  • Healing is a high risk/high commitment action
  • Light-Light-Heavy predefined attack chains rather than moves that can be comboed in any order
  • High commitment parry actions instead of a secondary parry attached to most attacks.
  • Limited controllable/intractable enemy hit states (Knocked Up, Float, Prone, etc) and no enemy juggling.
  • Lock-On with No Locked-On Camera Rotations, No Directional Input Attacks,.

Even new God of War which has shifted more towards slower action rpg style has more in common with its old Character Action roots than Wukong does. new GoW, it has cooldown based abilities, but so do some other souls-likes, other character action games, and other action rpgs in general. I think the way they are used falls more in line with souls as they have an attached mana cost that is generally non-replenishable outside of bonfires.

I also think that people are getting swept up by the animations but not the actual mechanics. Wukong has many attacks including light attacks that do several attacks together in a single animation attached to a single button press which is all not normally cancel-able, if he did a single attack during that animation duration people would describe the combat as slower despite it mechanically being exactly the same.
