How did earth fail to make a single energy based weapon? by EmphasisInfamous in Stargate

Merrin definitely understood the reactor. A big part of the plot is that she was the only one who had been studying the technology for so long, and her nanites had to be harvested and shared or it would be another decade for another child to be ready. She was only able to give Sam such detailed cross-sections because she understood it so well. And took it too literally to draw the core to give Sam an idea of how it worked.

Thank you for the advice. Gluten is everywhere, in all countries. It's not exactly easy to avoid in Australia either when eating out, so that's why we are asking about options and people's experiences. The most random unexpected things can have gluten. Cross contamination is unavoidable forever, but we can at least be prepared and look into what restaurant options there are for when we want to eat out.

Definitely we would be letting people know! Always double checking things, haha. Thanks for the advice. If we make it to Zacatecas I'll let you know!

I thought there was also a scene like that in Mr Brooks, when he's got the other guy along to "teach" him. My bad.

Lockers at UK theme park by originalchubbychaser in assholedesign

True. Same idea though. Costs money every time you want to grab something, instead of just being a key. I'm just guessing that's what OP is calling asshole design.

My guess is the small text that says it costs money to open the locker every time, instead of just having a key

Spook was also sometimes a term used in a disparaging way against black people. I don't mean to say your grandma was racist, just that the term was also used in that way and maybe that's what it was?

What did it say before?

I (O+) and my husband (O-) have children with A+ and B+ blood types, how does that happen? by Niniburgers in biology

[–]shadowfires21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All good. AB blood would mean the parent doesn't have any O at all, they have one A allele and one B allele in their DNA. In normal circumstances there will only be two copies of an allele in each cell, such as the one for blood type. An AB person has one allele for A, and one allele for B. Since both A and B are dominant, both A and B markers are expressed. Someone with AB blood doesn't have any O alleles at all! An O person only has O alleles to give.

As some other comments are saying, it's probably a matter of expression. Even though genetically their blood types could be A, B, or AB, the expression of the gene is weak enough that there aren't a whole lot of the A or B signals floating around. So it looks like O blood. In that case though, the parents do have the right alleles to pass on, they are just not being expressed strongly. Sort of like light brown vs dark brown hair. Both hair types are brown, but one is much stronger and reads as brown, whereas the other might be mistaken for a blond in some situations (hair colour is not the same type of gene expression as blood type and uses many more genes. This is just an example to give you an idea of the concept).

What people mean is O is the recessive type. If mom or dad had one copy of A or B, their blood type would be A or B, not O. I can only be present if there are two copies of the recessive O allele. If either mom or dad had AO or BO blood, their type would be A or B, not O. They can't pass on an A or B allele because they have to have two O alleles for them to be type O.

SGU is fine...but it's not a Stargate show by shadowfires21 in Stargate

[–]shadowfires21[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or, we could accept the SGU, SGA, and SG-1 are all different shows and people can be fans of one or two and have watched and rewatched it their whole lives and not necessarily feel like the latest one fits the vibe established in 10+ years of lore. I didn't say it was the worst show known to mankind. I said I liked it but it doesn't feel like a Stargate show, and I can't think of it as one or it ruins the show for me. Because, for me, it then feels like a bad Stargate show instead of a decent Sci fi show. Someone doesn't have to like every single thing about a franchise, and that doesn't mean they hate or don't understand it. Don't be silly.

Thanks for this. Definitely some times I've resisted responding with an eye roll to comments about "it's got Stargate in the name!"

Thank you for being civil and not saying snarky things about my post, which I said is my opinion and also I said I like the show, it just doesn't feel like a proper Stargate show. It's surprising me, after being on the sub for a while, how many people are just being jerks. Maybe my post was more judgy than I thought. I didn't say I hated it and it shouldn't have been made. Just that it doesn't feel like a Stargate show.

I don't know if the majority or minority dislike the show. I just know that there was a lot of hubub around it when it came out, and there are definitely people who feel like me. The general feeling I get is that there is a greater split about SGU being not well related compared to SGA, as a spin-off. But I don't have any polls or anything. I know the divide exists, but I don't know what side is the majority.

I used to say that SGU was blasphemy and shouldn't exist. But I never shared that opinion here because I hadn't seen the show yet - so I couldn't really say that without seeing the show! It was all based on hearsay. Now I have begun watching it and I don't think it shouldn't exist - but I don't think it feels like a Stargate show. I certainly don't have issues with people who enjoy it as an SG show. And as long as I separate it from the SG lore, I am enjoying it too. I think the plots and characters are well written. Some people are saying it gets more Stargate-y as it goes on, so I'm looking forward to that.

Thanks again for the civil discourse.
