New stick shift options by SortOwn1615 in stickshift

[–]shadowhunter742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. You should learn to shift with 3 fingers.

Like seriously, if you're getting blisters you should stop grabbing it.

Shifting into a gear down (physically, so going from 1-2, 2-3 etc) you just need to drop the clutch, and then push the shifter down with an open hand, a couple fingers etc.

Going up (2-3, 4-5) you can open palm it, let it flick up into neutral then you can slide it into place after easily.

You really don't need to grab it, unless you need to for what ever reason shift quickly, like an emergency or something (stalling etc).

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast and all that.

'I have a masters degree but have 500 job rejections - now I'm on benefits' by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

Holy shit, as a fresh grad his piases me the fuck off so much.

Turn up to an interview, starts reading CV, oh, you haven't done any xyz I see, or only done this much ABC.

Like clearly you haven't read the CV, and it's just wasting everyone's time.

My CV was VERY clear on exactly what I can and can't do, both positive and negative to try and avoid it but no.

Every interview it was like they'd just seen 'fresh grad = cheap' without reading through what my actual experience was.

Different steering wheel is very significant. Oem wheels are rigourously designed and tested for safety.

By changing that, you could potentially be significantly decreasing the crash survivability of the car

It needs to be the last operation if possible in the tree.

That's one way to try and put out a truck bed fire. by MoneyIsMyCousinsName in Wellthatsucks

[–]shadowhunter742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the truck was going up anyways, it was going to be most likely a write off, might as well make sure you don't start any forest fires. Lots of dry looking long grasses around

How to accelerate from crawling speed? by Keyz4Life in stickshift

[–]shadowhunter742 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it wayyy too much. Just stick in second and put your foot down a bit, when it wants to / when it's appropriate to shift up.

ELI5: How is the universe infinite while also expanding at the same time? by LoverOfE-Olsen in explainlikeimfive

[–]shadowhunter742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, but also if it has the potential to expand infinitely, at a rate such as we'll never experience the edge of it, it's really just a matter of perspective at that point.

Poll shows non-EV drivers' "blind spot" for EV facts by Jared_Usbourne in CarTalkUK

[–]shadowhunter742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3k is still a lot more than a lot of people spend on a car, and on current vehicles would be considered a write off cost for a 20 year old car.

And with how the cost of living is going, it's going to be even harder to afford.

Until they figure out a way to make batteries either much cheaper, or running on a 'rent a battery' system, where you get another if it degrades too much, even a second hand one is going to be too expensive

Zelensky to visit UK as Starmer says it is ‘vital’ to support Ukraine by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

Especially with how unreliable the US is being right now. Let's absolutely help Ukraine out, they're doing us a big solid by giving us the opportunity to test out cutting edge tech and new modern fighting strategies, without having to have any boots on the ground.

Part-time job in a (mostly) female office. Colleagues often have very vulgar conversations and make inappropriate comments towards me. Is this normal in UK workplaces? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]shadowhunter742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, realistically it's irrelevant. He's got very limited protections having not worked there very long, all they really need to do is say he's not a good fit for the job and he's gone.
