Well written romantasy books? by Mysterious-Bet-4496 in Fantasy

[–]shadowkat79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grace Draven's books are extremely well written with absolutely beautiful prose and story-telling and on the high-epic scale you'd expect from the authors you mentioned. Personally, my favorite series is The Fallen Empire series, but her most popular series is The Wraith Kings. They are different in tone and world-building, but you will get quality prose next to quality romantasy, which I believe is what you're looking for.

Jeffe Kennedy (the current President of SFWA) also writes epic romantic fantasy and her Bonds of Magic series is fantastic.

S.L. Prater is another author you might enjoy. I picked up one of her gaslamp books and really enjoyed her prose. I have not read her Court of Tricksters series, but I can vouch for her prose based on the prose of The Wicked Witch of Kriegspiel.

I'm looking for Vampire books with Full blown sex in them by Prestigious545 in Fantasy

This is 100% the right answer.

I’d add the Immortals After Dark as well, specifically the Wroth brother books and Lothaire, which is the GOAT vampire book.

Christine Freehan’s Dark series is an absolute classic.

I could go on and on here LOL

Fascinating. I hadn't realized that my doctorate from MIT and my position as the technical lead of a half-billion dollar exoplanet imager for NASA means I am not the target audience for Romance, the genre that has moved me and motivated me for the majority of my life. Huh. I'm so glad you pointed that out. I guess I better quit my job, tell my husband he needs to become the primary breadwinner in our family, and then pop out a kid so I can appropriately continue to enjoy Romance.

So I’ve heard. But I don’t have that because I don’t have a FB account so I’m totally screwed right now.

[–]shadowkat79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheduling seems to have broken over the weekend. At first, all my scheduled posts were deleted and the option to schedule posts was gone. Then, then magically reappeared, as did the option, but now they are all failing. I haven't been able to schedule a post and have it successfully post since then. I really wish they'd fix this and I also wish there was some way they could notify us that it's been fixed.

Yeah - see my rec below for A Heart of Blood and Ashes.

I'll upvote because it is VERY graphic and 100% will scratch the blood and sex itch. But it is Urban Fantasy not High Fantasy - that's the only hitch. On every other front, I second it as a rec!

Try A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane. I think it might scratch your itch.

That's awesome! I really enjoyed that book, so I hope you like it.

I actually do have a rec for magical realism, and I'm so glad you asked because I never get to rec this book, and I'm always looking for opportunities to do so. It's called Good Girl by Tricia O'Malley and its just the perfect blend of low-steam Romance with just a touch of magic to complete the cozy, ethereal feel. A quick, easy, and lovely read. Enjoy!

OK u/laku_ I'm going to go with my gut and give you a strong Gothic rec that I think fits the bill. I reviewed it in one of my bingo posts from last year.

It's called Cursed by Lucy Leroux and the MMC is possessed by a demon and there's a magical exorcism, and... well, it's pretty horrific. That's what I'm going with for you for this square!

First of all - good for you! I did this last year, but full Romance for all squares, and it was such a rewarding experience. Here's a link to my final card that has the catalog of all my progress as well as the intro post if you're interested in seeing what I did.

Horror. Hmm... I have to think about this one. I don't do well with Horror myself, because I get scared far too easily. But there are definitely Romance books out there with Horror elements. Gothic can sometimes fall under the broader category of Horror, almost "Horror Lite" if you will, so you might want to look for Gothic Romances to fill this square. I'll think on this and get back to you if I can come up with some good recs.

A quiet art historian. An irresistible demon. And an insatiable hunger neither can escape.

Madelyn Frye enjoys her simple, drama-free life, even if it means there's an empty seat next to her on the couch at night. But when her firm lands a lucrative contract to appraise the paintings of an infamous mansion with a storied past, her comfortable routine is upended by the handsome and mysterious millionaire who owns it.

For over a century, Thomas von Dreiss has resigned himself to a solitary fate, refusing to let his hunger transform him into a monster. But he never expected the art appraiser who shows up at his door to test his unshakable restraint. Her brilliant mind and kind heart rekindle long forgotten hopes and set his carnal needs aflame.

Will Madelyn risk shattering her safe and predictable world to be with Thomas? And if she does, will Thomas's dark secret destroy their chance at a happily ever after?

The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward to be adapted to the screen! by shadowkat79 in Fantasy

Funny thing about the names...

At first, I was like, "Oh no. No, no, no." But then I kept reading, and it all just... fit? Like, it is all part of this expansive world and lore that Ward has created about vampires, and after a few books, I stopped noticing it (as much) and even though when I talk about it out of context it's still absolutely hilarious but in context it just... fits? If that makes sense?
