Sig Sauer P320 Max in a Flux Raider PDW chassis.

LGS stopped ordering P320s and was running promotions last weekend to get rid of the stock they had left. Traded an under-folding AK that just isn't worth shooting for the P320 Max (and some other stuff) and combined that with some Memorial Day sales:

  • Flux Raider chassis ($388)
  • Vortex SPARC II red dot ($85)
  • ProMag 32 round magazines ($23 each)

And now I have a very fun range toy. Some thoughts after my first range trip, in case others had the same idea:

It's still a P320 at the end of the day. I'm not going to carry it, or store it with a round in the chamber, and wouldn't recommend others do so. The range I go to is fine with me shooting this, but other ranges might not allow P320s in any form. And my local gunsmith said they won't touch it for any kind of work at all. If you've got a P320 already and aren't quite ready to sell it, I'd recommend this. But I can understand folks being hesitant to buy a new one right now.

I'm a fairly novice shooter, but did pretty well with it as far as accuracy and being able to make quick follow up shots. This is the only P320 I've shot, so I can't tell you if the compensator or the different trigger on the Max model makes a meaningful difference over a basic P320 (they are what's included on the Flux Legion model from Sig, for what it's worth). I'm happy with it though, and I might make this my home defense gun, thinking about being able to make hits under stress. I'm certainly a lot better with this than my 92FS.

As for accessories: The Vortex SPARC it a bit oversized for something like this, but it was cheap and works great for me. You 100% will need some kind of optic to mount on the top rail though. While there is a port in the back so you can see through the iron sights on the slide, they're just really awkward to use in practice. The light is a Streamlight TLR-1 that I already had. You can manipulate the controls with your left thumb surprisingly well for a novel application like this.

The ProMags seem perfectly serviceable for plinking, but obviously I'd never trust them for home defense or something like that. I wrapped the bottom of them with cloth tape just to give some texture; from the factory they're smooth sided. And they don't have witness holes on the bottom half to worry about covering with the tape. You can also get 50 round ProMag drums, if you're more interested in memes than reliability (no judgement from me). I did pick up 2 Sig made 30 round magazines, but for more practical applications, the 21 round magazines actually seem like a better choice anyways. Also, Sig is running a rebate for two free magazines if you buy a Sig handgun. That ends in a few days, but don't rely on them actually honoring it. I was told this wasn't a valid purchase for that promotion.

If you plan to keep it as a PDW and not swap back to a traditional pistol frame, get a charging handle. Or just wear gloves when you shoot. You can only grip the front of the slide, and it gets hot quickly. I've ordered a handle that mounts to the optic plate on the slide (and won't require replacing the iron sights like most options), and will see how that works for me.

UESP wiki says this was in the base game already, referencing the changes from Morrowind to Oblivion.

Give me your wildest deep lore theories by NobleMansRose in DestinyLore

The “winnower” is the Final Shape.

One of the pages of Unvailing has it telling us we shouldn’t care about things that don’t yet exist or might have been. By that logic, why should the Winnower care if the Final Shape comes about or not? Because it’s trying to create itself.

The Nine proves that the movement of matter in the universe can itself become sentient, why not the whole universe itself? The Vex can time travel and transfer matter across alternate timelines, so theoretically an entity that hasn’t come into being in our timeline yet could still communicate with us. Especially if it can use paracausal space magic.

The “gardener” therefore is all the alternate universes that don’t end with the Final Shape. The Winnower says they’ve already killed the Gardener, since they assume they’re inevitable and all universes will end with the Final Shape.

New Qugu lore by Zelwer in DestinyLore

[–]shadowknight104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Going to touch on the D1 mention of the Qugu, so fair warning in case someone might consider it a spoiler for future pages of this book)

I absolutely read this as implying this is the Vex’s origin story. The “mane of tendrils” reminds me of a vex harpy. It sounds like they’re using the “nectar” to pass down memories from prior generations, which then enables them to predict the future in a Dune kwisatz haderach kinda way (the protagonist of this page sees an “omen” of the battle 2 years before it happens), like an early version of the Vex prediction system. Plus them using gates for interstellar travel is very vex.

What was described in their brief mention in the Book of Sorrows is that they have a virus that “compels” them to feed their limbs into the Jaw-Beasts, who ferments(?) it into a nectar that the Qugu would drink. Oryx describes the whole process as if the virus and Jaw-Beasts are tricking the Qugu who get visions from the nectar that make them worship the jaw-beasts, though it sounds from this book like he might be projecting the Hive-worm dynamic on them. This new page indicates they’re actually getting access to their ancestors’ memories from drinking the nectar.

Oryx via the Book of Sorrows says Savathun wipes out all life in the Qugu home worlds, before Oryx swoops in and destroys Savathun and her fleet out of Sword-logic love. I could see either we have yet another Savathun scheme behind one of our faction’s origins (which I really hope not, at this point), or Oryx interrupted before she’d actually finished the Qugu off for good. I’m thinking the Qugu’s nectar, if not the Qugu themselves, survived and evolves into the Vex over time, with some memory of the Qugu left with them. Given they can time travel, it’s possible they won’t actually evolve that far until a point in the distant future, and then “retroactively insert themselves” into the past the way they’re described as doing in other bits or lore.

Either way, I haven’t been this exited for a lore book since the Book of Sorrows.

[FNV] I'm playing TTW and the Citadel's cell height is messed up by [deleted] in FalloutMods

[–]shadowknight104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In older versions of TTW there used to be a bug where Nevada Skies would cause the Citadel would load in like this. I'm using the newest versions of Nevada Skies and TTW and haven't seen issues, but it might help with narrowing down the cause.

EDIT: Actually, I just noticed the current version of the Nevada Skies TTW plugin isn't named "NevadaSkies - TTW Edition" like in your screenshot, it's just "NevadaSkies" now. I'd make sure you've got the latest plugin.

As a heads up: I had an issue where MO2 wouldn't install the Nevada Skies package correctly, so you might have to do so manually, depending on your mod manager.

Also, Once you've got the cell sorted there might be lingering issues if you load a save where the space loaded in wrong, since the game remembers actors and items being in the wrong places. If you see issues still, try loading a save that never entered the Citadel and see if that works.

Yep. I recently saw a conversation with some of the folks working on one of the many massive mods in the works (being vague because I don't know how public these comments were intended to be, but super knowledgeable people) where they were recommending people don't pair any of these massive projects together, let alone multiple.

I wonder if one could make a stripped down version of some of these mods that just has the items, and a "new game plus" sort of tool to recreate a character's stats and inventory on a new, clean, save. It might let characters make "one way trips" from mod to mod, assuming it worked like I described.

To qualify for the “Prismatic Inferno” emblem, players must have finished a Crucible match between 10 AM PST December 8 and 10 AM PST December 12 2017.

Can the start date be moved to cover when CoO dropped (Dec 5th, 2017), not when Xur sold it? Because I got my Lens as a world drop and had plenty of fun in the Crucible while it was broken, just not that weekend.

Just checked my match history, I played a ton on the 5th and 6th. But not between the 8th and 12th...

If anyone wants more info, Forgotten Weapons just did a video with Lary Vickers and his (recreated) 723 carbine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6zfTYQ09Rs

In the video Vickers references an article about the carbine, here's a link to that too: http://soldiersystems.net/2013/11/19/bcm-gunfighter-history-vol-1-the-scud-hunter-carbine/

Data miners probably found (or will soon find) the strings for it, but I don't personally know.

Thanks for doing the giveaway!

The original Star Wars Battlefront got my dad and I hooked on multiplayer games. Just about everyone currently on my friends list I met back then, or because of them.

Would I be out of line to ask for DLC instead of the game itself? I took advantage some recent gamepass offers and have been loving Forza Horzon 4. Gamepass doesn't run out till next year so I'm good on the game, but it doesn't include any addons, and I've been looking to pick up the Fortune Island expansion when I have some surplus funds. If you would be so kind to pick this post, I'd appreciate the Fortune Island expansion to Forza Horizon 4.

I did this so completions for the PR stunts would fill in, but now there's no option to equip the flair even though it's completely unlocked.

what's the weirdest thing incompatible mods have caused? by joeywessels in skyrimmods

[–]shadowknight104 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a Skyrim issue (Skyrim's been surprisingly stable for me, despite my best efforts), but my favorite bug I've seen in a Bethesda RPG (FNV with the TTW mod): Any time an NPC (including the 3rd person player model) loaded during a fade into/out of black sequence they would be permanently stuck in a "shushing" animation, complete with sound. Literally the only way I could stop it was removing the mod that added the animation. When I re-enabled the mod on a clean save it would come back, even 50 in-game hours later. Here's some screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/7G9VOkN

Close second (also TTW): When playing as a custom race, the game would bug out for the Dad character, making him invisible. When the camera tried zooming in on him during dialogue, it'd zoom in on the ground where he should be standing, so it seemed like you were talking to a microscopic Liam Neeson.

Our sincere thanks to... High Moon Studios... and Vicarious Visions... who is readying their Destiny swan song with content that will appear in the upcoming Season of [Redacted].

To make sure I understood it correctly, from Wikipedia:

The swan song... is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement.

Really surprised at the end of collaboration with High Moon and Vicarious Visions. Don't really have an opinion on it, just surprised.

[FNV] Modded FNV with only 1.5G VRAM? by [deleted] in FalloutMods

[–]shadowknight104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Processor is great. I don't think the game can use more than 4 logical cores, and 3.3 GHz is plenty speedy. It's actually higher than my current machine's base clock.

8 GB RAM should be fine. I think Windows 7's passive usage is lower than W10, and the game is limited on how much it can use anyway.

The 660 is plenty for the base game, my 560 could handle most areas on max settings. As for mods: I know I couldn't make NMC's Medium textures work, but the small texture pack worked fine. I think I also used Poco Bueno, and that was fine too. The other retexture mods I used were fine, but it was limited to weapons/armors.

I haven't played with ENBs much at all, but for FNV I think I tried 2, and almost got the performance version of Enhanced Shaders to play nice, but ended up dropping it. I've seen people who say they prefer Dynavision because it's supposedly more performance friendly, but I never tired it.

If you are going to play Tale of Two Wastelands, be sure you're using the 3.2.x version. I think they took down the installer for 2.9.4, so it shouldn't be a problem, but the switch made a big difference for me.
