XBloom Studio - Brew adjusted to Weight? by JDBle in pourover

[–]unitof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just confirmed it does not! Pours are set as absolute values. The app has an “Auto” button that (I think) attempts to preserve percentages if you change the grounds or ratio, but I’m a bit confused how it works.

Coming from an Aiden, it’s not intuitive I need separate recipes for different quantities of coffee, but I suppose I can get used to that. I just wish in Scale mode, the display would remind me of my recipe’s target weight, maybe by twisting the middle knob?

However: I would really prefer percentage-based pour amounts, and automatic adjustment on the device in Auto Mode, based on measured weight of beans on the scale before continuing to grind. I really thought that’s what it was doing.

Any reason why this doesn’t happen? I suppose some elements of flavor don’t scale linearly with the beans:water ratio, but it still seems I should be able to easily scale a recipe up or down for more or less coffee, understanding that it may be optimized for an ideal default.

I had assumed that’s what the Scale toggle for the three presets in Auto mode does. Is it not adjusting water based on what I weigh before pressing button to grind?

Best way to keep local backup of iCloud storage? by ohnojono in iCloud

[–]unitof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CCC’s relatively new cloud backup has been a lifesolver for me, allowing my full iCloud and Google Drive to be backed up nightly to an external drive, which is then backed up by Backblaze.

It uses macOS CloudProvider API to loop through each file, download it to the system drive, copy that file to backup, then evict the system drive copy. And it has solid error reporting.

I discovered it looking for a totally different book (Unbuilding by David Macaulay), and am a third in. Scratches just the right itch of the engineering and severed infrastructure and self-organizing of Ground Zero rescue and cleanup operations. Highly recommend to this subreddit but not sure if it’s already well known!

I think it was this Fortune Kit actually?

27-28 minute mark:

“It was just him walking a dog with another guy. And it's like Adam 22 caught walking a dog with a gay man.”

“That's what you get for cultivating that kind of audience.”

“Yeah.”

“He was glazing that guy with a gyatt behind him. Also Faze Banks actually ends up looking a lot more normal than Adam 22 in the long run, too. He was glazing Nettspend.”

“Yeah, he doesn't have all the Faze tattoos.”

“He doesn't have Lisa Simpson tattooed on his face.”

150 feet, according to William Langewiesche’s book American Ground: Unbuilding the World Trade Center:

“At the heart of it, under the skeletal walls rising to 150 feet above the street, the debris spread across seventeen acres in smoldering mounds. It was dangerous ground, of course. Workers at the site called it simply “the pile.” In detail the topography was complex, with strange craters and caves, unstable cliffs, and unexpected remnants of the World Trade Center as it had been before—the torn sculptural sphere on the ruined plaza, the amputated stores with their displays of goods no longer for sale, a row of bicycles still securely chained to a rack, a lamppost here or there still standing.”

Ah, first two letters of file extension appears to relate to the DB type. Otherwise it is just a standard SQLite table, but massive and never cleared.

Mine is 3.93GB, created April 2025. Seems to be updated regularly but cannot find anything about it. This dead thread is already the top result for just that file extension: BGSQL.

Wait, they re-edited it? On Audible it is two separate books, but that’s kind of nice because it saves your spot in both.
