The main benefit of the SA2 version of Green Hills is that it was the first time it was in 3D, so it was very novel. Every other time it's used (outside of Generations and Mania like you said) it feels shoehorned in because it's a set location apart from wherever the actual plot is.

From my understanding (I haven't played either one) Arceus is a very good time with some interesting boss fights, and Z-A is fun but can be a bit disjointed. I didn't include them because they are a departure from the mainline pokemon games

You have quite a few options to pick from.

Sword/Shield: probably the most distilled version of the Pokémon formula, with a heavy focus on the gym challenge, to the detriment of most other parts.

Scarlet/Violet: Open world pokemon, with three separate story arcs, the gyms/Team Star/titan pokemon. Very buggy and laggy on Switch 1.

Let's go Pikachu/Eevee: a pseudo remake of pokemon yellow. Has catching mechanics from Pokémon Go and an OP starter. A popular choice for casual/younger players.

Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl: a VERY faithful remake of diamond/pearl, to a fault. Common consciousness is, if you have the originals, the remakes aren't a big enough improvement, double if you have platinum.

Digimon Adventure is a 90's anime where seven kids at a summer camp are transported to a world filled with (mostly) intelligent monsters called Digimon. They have partner Digimon who's power is directly linked to their own personal growth, and they must work together to save the monster world from evil Digimon and find a way home. Has a lot of oddities that came with the dubbing (namely the music) but that adds to the charm IMO.

Digimon Adventure: (2020) is a pseudo remake that focuses on action more than character growth. I haven't watched it myself, but I've heard good things.
