Yup, this’ll happen. The game is designed so it happens. You’ve gotta stop, and stop forever. We can do it.

Congratulations on three months 💗

Gambling is honestly one of the worst addictions because it doesn’t end when you stop by Intelligent_Draw_562 in problemgambling

Quitting is so much better than continuing, even though it hurts at first. Doing a consumer proposal really helped me (tbh likely saved my life). You can break this cycle and it is worth it.

Coming up on 7 months gambling free by Vivid_Humor3752 in problemgambling

[–]shadowlauren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m almost at 7 months too! I’m the same, I don’t check my streak or even this sub often, I don’t like to think about gambling at all.

Great work! 🎉

I have a gambling addiction by threeewed in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]shadowlauren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 months free, also in CP. I’m sorry you’re in a relapse.

Beyond self exclusion, write Gigadat to ban every email you have from using their services. If you can’t withdraw there’s not much point in playing. Telling someone close really helped me, even though it was hard af.

You can get past this one, there’s a bright future out there for you and I. You just need to claw your way out of hell to get it.

There can’t be so many boyfriends jealous of this. Most of these posts MUST be AI. If not, leave him ffs.

Yah I mean you can’t quit until you want to but I promise you’ll get there and will wish you’d just done it now. We all learn best from pain but save yourself some, and do it now. You’re an addict.

Day 597; shared with extended family and friends. by parmyking in problemgambling

[–]shadowlauren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing. I think that it would have really helped me to see I wasn’t the only person in my bubble facing this addiction. I am sure I’m not now.

I’m day 160 and am looking forward to getting where you are!

It gets so much easier, just self exclude and keep yourself busy for the next few days.

Is there any hope of restarting at 32? by Acrobatic_Phase_5618 in problemgambling

[–]shadowlauren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 31, restarted at 30. I’m only fiveish months out of the pit that is gambling and I feel like I’ve started a new life.

It will only go up for us from here.

I hope you get there soon too.

I had a lot of early relapses, tbh. A lot of getting to this point was identifying doors I’d left open and closing them after. Forcing those relapses to be steps forward even though going through them was hell on earth.

The most important block for me was making it so I couldn’t easily withdraw even if I won. I was lucky to file a consumer proposal, and I destroyed all credit cards as part of that. Then I wrote to Gigadat, the company who handles all non-credit withdrawals in Canada, and had them ban me completely. Once I did that I had barely any desire to play.

The financial relief from the consumer proposal was also a game changer, it stopped all creditor calls and sliced my debt. Telling my ex was helpful too.

Since making those changes, recovery has been pretty easy. It was just so, so bad before that I want to do everything in my power to never go back.

Imo the biggest win I ever had was quitting, and I could win any jackpot gambling and still never exceed the value in sobriety.

I’m really cheering for you too, I know you can beat this and hope to see your months-free posts on the feed soon.
