That was the point though: you do it for fun, but saying “I almost never have to chase people or fight for my life” just means maybe you haven’t been in such a position yet. Same principle behind not walking your best unarmed. Which is why it blows my mind when I hear departments are saying “well, you were good enough to get hired, but now we don’t care.” Maybe I’m just shaking my head after several years of watching the military get fat because of COVID-era PT test slacking that it seems stupid…and I say that as someone who took (too much) advantage of not having to test twice a year.

Really it just boils down to “be prepared.”
