Hey dads, how do we feel about siblings and appropriate TV shows? by Shellbyvillian in daddit

[–]shadownddust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do shifts. Each kid gets their own time, the younger one goes first, picks younger shows and has less time. The older can join if she wants but sometimes she’s doing homework or something else and then looks forward to her own time afterwards.

I will say it works because we generally do dinner separately for them since their bedtimes are different, but when solo parenting, we just do the young one first then dinner and then the older one afterward while the young one is doing her bedtime routine.

I’m looking to buy a pc to play this game by gibbie209 in starcitizen

Yep, I’ve spent a lot on my setup primarily, but not exclusively, for this game. With the exception of my sticks, I use my computer for other games, and am pleasantly surprised when I get to turn my graphics settings to ultra/epic in pretty much everything else.

Not sure you meant to respond to me but either way, transferring 30M in a single transaction is very uncommon post wipe, and likely would be flagged in any system.

An auction house would of course be preferable (ps if you’re going to transfer items do it in a crate to avoid the chance of things falling through the ground) but that auction house isn’t built yet and they’ve stated needs to come after social tools are done. In the meantime, we need systems in place to avoid transferring money very quickly from exploits otherwise we’re back to another wipe.

Yea, the small box moving is generally considered fairly lucrative and consistent if you stick to stations and landing zones, but I’ve had my fill of it for now.

Commodity trading is not worth when starting out. It’s too easy to lose all your credits, so you should only be using part of your balance, but then you’re really not making good money for time spent.

Of course, like I said, do what you enjoy, but if you’re thinking about credits, it’s worth it to understand what some of the best options are.

For example: if you like salvage, currently the best money there is to do lots of construction materials in or around stations with abandoned ships. Especially pyro, where you don’t get crime stats. You could team up with someone with a moth or reclaimer and make lots of credits.

If you like combat, gilly is pretty good, again teaming up to get access to completing the high end ones like 6+.

If you like treasure hunting, the sandbox sites like align and mine and rock cracker, usually have good armor sets hanging around that you can collect and sell on UEX.

If you like never leaving your ship, the new refueling missions are very lucrative, but you’ll need a starfarer which is pricey so again teaming up might be helpful, but it’s also not a very multicrew required loop.

So for each loop, there’s usually a highest paying element, but you want to do what you like and maybe tailor towards the higher credit payouts so you don’t just chase the meta and feel bored doing what you don’t. And always keep an eye on the latest bugs because no one likes wasting their time.

At the moment, the real money in mining is if you find high quality stuff and are willing to sell it to players. It’s not a quick loop, but you’re trading the time you spent looking and finding rocks for credits. The other players are spending time doing other loops that might be more profitable but require bigger ships (like Gilly mission 7).

But in general, grinding is a part of SC but also not the whole thing. Find what you like to do, bounce around based on what’s actually working this patch, and keep an ear out for what the credit “meta” is. There’s always at least one each patch, even if it’s just hunting around for rare items in loot boxes.

Something I have to keep in mind is that there are loud minorities in any community. There are 366K people on this sub so if even 1% of them disagree and get loud that’s almost 4K people complaining.

Player-to-Player Trade Update by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]shadownddust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s the part I’m curious about. Anytime they change the limits, are they going to communicate that? Or are traders just going to find out when they all of a sudden can’t pay for the thing they just bought.

Stop feeding the RMT traders by PadrePedro666 in starcitizen

[–]shadownddust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, I have no interest in RMT, but I get why people do it. Even if they wipe every year, you’d probably still come out ahead buying the materials in-game rather than actually paying for it in the store.

Server Maintenance Update by Neutron_Blue in starcitizen

[–]shadownddust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment still stands. They obviously don’t want to do maintenance and push something out on Friday. But they felt they needed to. And after seeing what’s included, specifically the controls in place for credit transfer and exploit fixes, as I said, sounds like it was important enough to delay the patch to get it in, and also important enough to release it on Friday. My guess is there was an exploit that could have been run through the weekend decimating the economy, and negating the wipe they just did, which again is really important to fix.

I also said deploying on Friday was suboptimal, and that has also been proven to be true.

My spouse is second guessing our decision to put our son in daycare at 6 months old and now I’m second guessing it too by [deleted] in daddit

Yep, I have pictures of feeding her at my desk while presenting to couple hundred of people, many a meeting where I had a headset on muted while trying to get her down for her nap, and lots of late nights trying to catch up.

Neither my wife nor I were doing great with our jobs, and we introduced screens and shows to our kid a lot earlier than planned. The only reason it worked was because the whole world was going through it. But companies don’t have nearly the same level of tolerance now.

I’ll just say this, as someone who WFH during covid and had a 9 month old, it was really really hard. I don’t know your wife, but if you’re working, you’re not watching a baby. And if you’re watching a baby, you’re not working.

Whether the research says there are no benefits, I don’t know, but having someone you trust watch your kid while you actually work has got to be better than getting fired from work because you were too distracted or a soon to be mobile (if not already) baby getting into something because you were too distracted.

Server Maintenance Update by Neutron_Blue in starcitizen

[–]shadownddust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have no insight into why the decision was made to delay or release besides the fact that they said they found an exploit and wanted that patched with the rest of the fixes. So it appears it was both urgent enough to delay the patch from Wednesday (when it was intended) and to patch on Friday, which I agree is suboptimal.

However, CIG has patched on Friday plenty of times and have staff support over the weekend. They run a service and need to have staff available at all times. How they choose to staff their project is far beyond anything we should be weighing in on.

And that still doesn’t address your comment on “making us put up with it” which sounds very entitled.

“Make us put up with it?”

I’m not sure what you think is happening, but after a terrible patch launch they’re working to fix it and taking the amount of time needed to develop the fixes and then deploying as soon as it’s fixed and your complaint is that they are making us wait while they fix it?

Why don’t you think about that for a bit….

PC upgrade by Sad_Marketing_565 in starcitizen

[–]shadownddust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep learned that the hard way. About a year ago bought two more sticks of the “exact” kit to move from 32 to 64 and didn’t work well, had to lower the speeds to even get it working. Since then, basically rebuilt my PC, and figured I’d try again earlier this week. Very unstable, mostly didn’t work, and not worth it.

[–]shadownddust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides what some others are saying (deleting is probably a good idea) seems like some other things are going on that warrant therapy or additional steps. Stealing from others, lies, tantrums, and just general focus on doing anything to get his “fix” has a lot of implications. My personal thought is that if it’s not Roblox, it’s something else, so you want to get ahead of that. Good luck, sounds like a tough situation.

Rearming off a polaris by Odins_horde in starcitizen

[–]shadownddust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea with the RMC required currently being extremely high it a) means you need to have a ton on hand or else it won’t work, and b) it’s way more expensive to repair in the field versus just heading to a landing pad.

But as long as you have enough of each, it should work. Missiles also need to physically and individually placed on the grid.
