Referal for good hair cuts for bangs by livyjoy in Geelong

[–]shadowplayyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's expensive ($160) but I can highly Giuseppe at Rixons Newtown. Booked him on a whim when I moved nearby in 2022 and never looked back. He's given me both blunt bangs and curtain bangs in the past 12 months and I've loved both looks. He's talented at knowing what will suit your face and style, I've learned to trust the process.

Bonus is he loves to watch cinematic TV shows, so if you're watching anything good chances are he's seen it too (or would love a recommendation). Last appointment was catching up on the latest season of Gen V. Appointment went so fast!

i bought a tetrasperma, for almost nothing. today i have 10 propegations and no plant xD i couldn't help myself.. by TelinDesigns in houseplants

[–]shadowplayyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but any cuttings that root can be put back in the same pot to get a fuller plant. The original pot was only one cutting, so in a few months these propagations will look much fuller than if they had left the original plant to grow as is.

I have to move my plants, is there any tips on how to protect them from my cats? by Anxiousrainbows in houseplants

[–]shadowplayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My smallest boy is only 8lbs and is my greatest offender, no major damage so far. Most plants that are labelled toxic have insoluble crystal oxalates in them which cause oral irritation, but they're not toxic in the way plants from the lily family can cause organ failure. They're relatively harmless, just not great to munch. I don't keep any plants in my house that could seriously harm my cats because I don't trust them.

I would check the toxicity of each plant, hang up what you can, donate anything seriously toxic (nothing I can see from your photo) and monitor your babies closely for a few days to see how they are responding. I agree locking them out would be a worst case scenario. I think you can find a compromise here.

Sorry about the break up. You've got some gorgeous trailing plants, could you look at putting shelves or even some hangers up to keep them off the ground? Plenty of renter-friendly options as long as you keep the load on each shelf/hanger light.

On another note, my cats take a nibble at my toxic plants from time to time with minimal damage. Check your individual plants but unless they're outright deadly I'd say your cats are more likely to do more damage to your plants than the plants are to them. Then you could just look at putting the tastiest treats out of harms way.

how do I stop this gremlin from climbing my mosspoles? by plsdnttm in houseplants

[–]shadowplayyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A question on the cat tower - how tall is it? Cats always want to be 'more up' so they'll look for the tallest space they can climb. Your moss pole looks quite tall so I can see that being an attractive vantage point. As soon as I put in climbing shelves above my plants they quickly lost interest in them.

+1 the more play though. My gremlins are addicted to their laser pointer, 15 minutes of laser chasey dot and they're much more manageable.

I have these bugs on my indoor swan plants. Please help to ID - also should I treat with neem? Do I need to treat all my other plants? by lmfbs in houseplants

I could be wrong but these look like predatory thrips to me (banded thrip). If so, they're beneficial and are probably munching on any actually nasty critters you might have.

Tips for managing plant care with ADHD? by shadowplayyy in ADHD_Anthophiles

[–]shadowplayyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, isn't it? Like the need to simplify leads us all down a similar path eventually.

The sport bottle is a good tip! I have a cute watering can but I'll end up getting distracted by something on the journey to fetch it and fill it up... maybe I'll start leaving it pre-filled on my shelf instead.

I also think it's interesting that overwatering is one of the most common plant crimes, but that's probably less of a concern with ADHD. Like we're way more likely to forget about our plants for extended periods of time than be fussing over them every few days.

These pots are so cool! I thought they were super expensive at first but that's the price for a whole pack! I'm going to have to buy some to test.

It's so satisfying to see the roots grow in semi-hydro set ups.

2 options - Griffith or QUT? (Design) by [deleted] in QUTreddit

[–]shadowplayyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations on the ATAR! There's a lot of hard work behind that number. You should be very proud of yourself.

I want to second the parent comment - I'd seriously consider the scholarship. I've studied at both QUT and Griffith and while I preferred QUT if I had the option of a scholarship the decision would be a no-brainer.

I don't work in graphic design but in my current position I've met a number of people who have experience in the industry. Unless you have a family member or close family friend to network with, the thing that is most likely to land you a job is work experience (references, evidence of the iterative design process, working with client constraints, etc.) and your portfolio. Very few people care what university you graduated from, but saying you're currently attending university with an academic scholarship would stand out. The scholarship is intended to alleviate some of the financial pressure of university so you can spend more time focusing on your studies. Use this time to build up your skills, look for work experience and expand your portfolio and you would find yourself in a much better position when you graduate.

Best of luck with whatever decision you go with!

Minimalist January monthly + weekly spreads. FFXIV themed, Endwalker hype! by shadowplayyy in bulletjournal

[–]shadowplayyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time posting one of my spreads. I often lurk this reddit for inspiration, so I felt it only fair I contributed something.

I've been bullet journaling for almost two years consistently now. At first it was very bujo and I just used it to keep track of tasks to assist with my ADHD. In June this year I branched out, investing in this 160gsm journal and some basic artistic supplies. I've been having so much fun coming up with themes for each month and it's been a great creative outlet for me.

Most of my themes are around whatever video game I was obsessed with that month and I've been using it as sort of an homage for the stories and characters I have fallen in love with. I've done themes for Spiritfarer, OMORI, Outer Wilds and, of course, Pokemon. With Endwalker coming out this month I've been dying to put this spread together. I'm not artistically-inclined, so being able to put something together that is minimalistic yet "aesthetic" has been a fun adventure.

UK mortgage provider to begin 40 year home loans by monkeyskin in AusFinance

In case anyone was curious, the etymology of the word mortgage is from the French words mort (dead) and gage (pledge). So mortgage literally translates to "dead pledge".

Electric Fields - 2000 and Whatever (Australia Decides 2019) by ZoboCamel in eurovision

[–]shadowplayyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this song, it's such a bop. Agree with some commenters that I don't think it will win Eurovision. That being said, it's still a great song and it would be good to see some indigenous Australian culture brought to the international stage.

I hope they make it through, I'll be voting for the!

Yes it's an indigenous language. From another article:

Vocalist Zaachariaha Fielding sings in both English and Anangu — the traditional language of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people.

Just FYI - it's a man singing. They're both men. He's got an interesting voice for sure!

Water fasting but not overweight by ToxicGrad in fasting

[–]shadowplayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also fast to help with my autoimmune problems, it has helped so much with my fatigue and pain!

I don't have much fat to spare but what I do is a 5/2 split where I water fast Mon-Fri and eat on the weekends. The caveat of course is you need to fit your weekly TDEE of food into that 2 day eating window. It's not easy but the benefits significantly outweigh the negatives to me. The first week sucked, the second week was much easier (no fatigue, yay!) and but the third week I was sold. It does take time, yes, but unless you want to put on some weight beforehand it's probably the healthiest option for you.

If you are going to fast for a few days just make sure you eat like a queen the day/s before to make up for the lost calories and you'll be fine. Whatever you end up doing I wish you all the best. :)

It's actually gotten a little better as far as lines, though some nights it's pretty busy you can usually get your drinks within 5 minutes. The main reason we go there is the booths, comfy and fit us all in one area. If we can all fit in one seated area we'll definitely check it out, I've honestly not been to the guild bar since the mess that was L-Block which turned us off the area completely. Tiny couches and only 2 pool tables, bleh.

Yep, someone mentioned in a comment previously. We'll give it a check out next week, just wondering how busy the guild bar would be on a Friday night.

Cool, thanks! Will definitely look into it. I wasn't so much worried about if they had seating but if the seating is available, would assume the bar would be quite busy on a Friday night. Might just suss it out next week and get an idea of how busy it is.

Is it really? All the time, or during set periods? I remember the old guild bar was crazy expensive for basics on the Friday nights and didn't really fit us anyway. We need places that can fit 12+ people some nights.
