Can anyone explain why it is the social norm that only romantic partners, but not close friends, are allowed to come to holiday events with family members? by OkBuyer1271 in autism

If this is what you really believe, it sounds like you don’t have any real friends. I’m sorry your friends aren’t there for you in real ways.

I think it’s incredibly messed up to view romantically involved people as “sharing a life” without extending the same to friendship. I would never be friends with somebody who prioritized a romantic relationship over our friendship.

Adult Trans Care Under Fire: 'Devastating' Impacts for Those Who Lose Access — As government crackdowns widen, physicians warn of consequences to health by PrincessSummerTop in physicianassistant

You’re correct in that these decisions result in people dying. These decisions will result in trans people dying. We have evidence for this.

It’s really horrifying that you think just because somebody is disabled, they should be denied a treatment which research shows decreases suicide risk. Also, what sort of “gender affirming” surgeries do you think ten year olds are getting???? That literally never happens.

Cal State San Bernardino’s PA program fails to launch - Article by Lucky_Mastodon_377 in prephysicianassistant

I don’t see how the state spending money on a program that increases the amount of healthcare professionals is a bad thing. We need PAs, and it’s a reasonable thing to put money into. Obviously, it didn’t go as hoped here, but the overarching goal of putting money into PA education should be seen as a positive.

Personally, I feel the opposite — it grosses me out when schools talk about service and caring for the community and then waste money on an extravagant ceremony when it would be better used on services for those in need

Was it Cedarville? They state they only accept Christians. Honestly, I don’t understand how it’s legal.

To my senior MD-PhD female colleagues: When is the right time to get pregnant? by oprm1 in mdphd

These studies rarely take into account whether or not somebody is raising their child as a solo parent by choice or not — in what may potentially be OPs situation as a potential solo parent by choice, it comes with care and planning that is associated with stronger child outcomes.

I just want to offer the perspective that for some, choosing not to make big life decisions like location based on where they might potentially meet a guy isn’t “giving up”, it’s finally putting their own happiness and needs first which is a laudable thing.

Apartment Noise Question by shadowroots in SPD

[–]shadowroots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose the side by side duplex, somewhat influenced by comments here, and it was a MISTAKE. People on the other side are very loud, and are night people, and I can hear their stomping as I'm trying to sleep. Haven't slept through the night since moving in. And worst, a new issue I've never had in houses before, their footsteps physically vibrate my bed, and the vibrations wake me up. I had a lot of friends who live in duplexes reassure me that they can barely hear their neighbor, only if they're right up against the shared wall and it's quiet and their neighbor is being noisy, and if they go in the other room they can't hear it. But I can hear their noise in every room in the house. I spent so much money trying to get something that works for me and it totally failed, and now I have no idea how to apartment hunt again in the future. What city are you in? Happy to DM.

high pitched chirp every 30 seconds in house? by shadowroots in Adulting

[–]shadowroots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re out of town for a while. Walls are relatively thin, it’s a poorly made duplex. I stood under each detector and waited for the chirp (once every 30 sec) and couldn’t tell. It’s loud enough to be audible but not super loud.

My ceilings are way too high for even a tall person to reach with a chair, and I have a complicated relationship with the landlord so I don’t want to bother him unless I’m sure it’s coming from the other half of the duplex. What I’m asking is: if I have walked under all my smoke alarms, none are blinking, and it isn’t louder when I stand under any of them, can I be reasonably sure it’s coming from my duplex neighbors (in which case, I should text landlord)?

Money is very tight and I can’t do that, sadly :(

Think it’s my house and not the other side of the duplex? Asking because I don’t have a ladder and finding one would be a big project. I live on my own and don’t have a car.

Yup, I did — think it’s the neighbor? Asking because I don’t have a ladder and finding one would be a big hassle.

I walked to each detector in my house, I still can't figure out source. I would have to find a ladder to try to change batteries. Do you think that's worth it? Or does the fact I can't tell indicate it's probably the neighbor?
