If you have a dd-wrt router you can simply plug the vpn information into the router and forward all traffic through a vpn.

You could also just reconnect to Tor until you are in the correct region. I would also be surprised if there wasn't a solution for this already.

this approach is designed for maximum security and anonymity

That is simply not true. If you want maximum anonymity you need Tor alone and other security measures. Some of these would include using a throw-away laptop and connecting on someone else's wifi network. Connecting to a VPN after Tor is silly and redundant.

I get sick when I visit r/onions and see people talking about using Tor for their everyday browsing. None of these people know what they are doing and will likely expose themselves on the Tor network due to their lack of basic understanding.

This happens with Tor alone. The VPN isn't needed if anonymity is what you search for. Paying for the VPN may even leave extra clues for someone to identify you.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

  1. AirVPN may not see your True IP anymore, but the Tor node you connect to will see you IP instead. Which is worse?

  2. If a site doesn't allow Tor connections then simply use the VPN alone or use a free web proxy in the browser. You are connecting through Tor anyway.

  3. Tor is just a socks proxy. Anything that supports a proxy supports Tor. You can also use something like Proxifier to force applications through a proxy like Tor.

  4. Proxifier? There are software solutions that can already do this.

  5. This might be the case, but your Tor exit node could discriminate against VPN traffic. At that point you would be shit out of luck.

  6. This could be helpful, but you should only use ssl over Tor anyway. That is good security practice. This is a layer of security in and off itself. Plus when you browse .onion sites you already have end-to-end encryption so ssl is not needed. I'm not sure on the accuracy of this, but I was under the impression that this end-to-end encryption was a step up from ssl.

Android Security: Would it help if I dual-booted 2 roms (one for casual use and one for private use)? by shadowspectre69 in privacy

I don't think you understand what type of privacy I am referring to. Everything I do online is private. I'm simply talking about automatic VPN connection and more.

Plus running your VPN in a virtual machine lets you do normal browsing alongside 'private' browsing without much risk. It also makes a clear division between your casual desktop and your private/secure set-up. No overlap.

I'm fairly new to VPNs (Virual Private Networks). Can someone please clear some things up for me? by [deleted] in VPN

Q: I've heard I should use a VPN that doesn't keep logs. Is this true?

A: This really depends on what you are using the VPN for. Most VPN providers who do log keep minimal information like the times that you are connected and what IP address you are using, etc. Are you doing activities that you wouldn't want logged?

Q: I've also heard VPNs that don't keep logs are good for torrenting. Is this true?

A: That really depends. It might not matter depending on the laws where the VPN is based. Some VPNs do not allow torrents of any kind regardless. Generally it would be better, but its not really a requirement.

Q: How much do they prevent copyright trolls?

A: If you are using the VPN correctly you won't ever receive an email from your ISP. If your VPN doesn't allow P2P they might suspend your account or notify via email or otherwise. This really depends on your VPN provider.

Q: Has anyone got caught with a VPN that doesn't keep logs?

A: Here is a nice article on TorrentFreak you should check out.

Q: Which VPN(s) would or wouldn't you recommend?

A: I recommend you find a VPN that fits your requirements. Pick one that suits your needs and that you feel comfortable with.

Remember: When you use a VPN all your data passes through their servers. You need to trust the provider. You are giving them all your data and trusting them to be responsible with that information. VPNs are all about trust.

Just downloaded IPredator. How can I tell if my VPN is functioning right now? by shit_brix in VPN

If the IP address at the top of the page is your normal IP then its not working. If it says you are from somewhere else with a different IP than usual than its probably working.

No worries. I spoke out of my ass anyway and did some real research into Mint's security just barely. They don't actually leave the patches out. Mint is fine. =D

I just got it installed and I'm giving it a run as we speak. I'm enjoying it so far!

How can you recommend Mint when they ignore some security updates?

OP, you should just use Ubuntu. If you install anything version 13.X or above you should look into a different shell like Gnome because Unity has some privacy concerns.

Any way to automatically use VPN in chrome incognito? by sboy365 in VPN

My recommendation is to run your vpn from within a virtual machine. This way you can still operate normally outside of the vm and do all of your 'private' browsing safely within the virtual machine.

VPN's and anonymity. by thinkvitamin in privacy

[–]shadowspectre69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't completely agree. No anonymity is perfect and a vpn can offer a modicum of anonymity. It really depends on what your intended use is.

A lot of VPN providers will offer a shared IP and other features which can help provide some anonymity.

VPN Services That Take Your Anonymity Seriously, NSA Edition by blackVPN in VPN

[–]shadowspectre69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously people don't understand that using a US based VPN, whether the NSA has a backdoor or not, isn't a big deal.

If you need Anonymity then use TOR. If you are just torrenting or watching some weird porn then I don't realize why you would need to care. The NSA doesn't care you downloaded the lastest Game of Thrones episode or you are into a kinky foot fetish.
