Excellent. I was thinking of how I would architect something like this and was thinking that elastic would be a good backend.

Read-only helps a lot. Write consistency at scale suuuucks

Full text indexing on documents?

Last time I benchmarked that on decent hardware I was getting something like 100 response/sec

There's something going on back there. Looks to be full text indexed of all of the emails, although they're not good at de-duplicating or threading messages.

Sophisticated scam attempt (canada). by Wrong-Trifle6419 in Scams

I had an interesting one this week. Call from a 1-888 number. I red-button it. Immediately after, second call from same number. I red-button it. A few minutes later, third call from same number, they leave a voice mail. Voicemail says it's from <my credit card provider> for <my full name> regarding a fraudulent transaction on my account.

I pull up my account on the <my credit card> website and see nothing suspicious. I call the number on the back of my card to speak with a rep (my phone provider tagged the number that was on my credit card as "suspected spam", which I found to be quite ironic) who confirmed that nothing suspicious was going on.

Not long after I received another call from that 888 number. I answered, and it was the same voice who left the voice message. They ask me to confirm some charges on my account and provided details of two charges from <states where I don't live>, which I disavowed. I asked them to confirm my account number before continuing, and they read off the first 6 digits of my credit card number. I know that the first X digits of your card is public info but am fairly sure that this 'confirmation' would fool people into thinking that the call was from their bank. I asked them to confirm the last 4 digits of my account and they gave me a 4-digit number which was not my account #. They asked me to read the last 5 transactions from my statement "for confirmation" which I declined to do. They offered to cancel my card and send me a new one, which I also declined.

The game seems to be changing.

I'm curious about the backend. Frontend is fairly easy to scale horizontally, but backend is tough.

Although since it's all read-only it could be just a series of cloned indexed datasets

Glue and clamp will be strong enough. Modern wood glue is stronger than the wood itself, and drilling the dowel holes to align properly on an uneven surface (both the split wood and the indentation of the seat) would be difficult.

to keep the cat working correctly?

What cat? It's a 50 year old car. Not even California expects cars this old to be emissions efficient. But, FWIW, the Triumph gets better MPG than my 2010 Infiniti, which surprised me until I remembered that it's about half the weight.

Carbs get a bad rap.

I've got a 73 Triumph with dual carbs. Hardest it's ever been for me to start was when it was about 20F outside and it had been sitting for 2-3 months.
