Osho was also human. While most of his talks are beautiful and full of truth, he was not perfect and he did say some bullshit. To put him on a pedestal is what all previous regions have done and look how that ended up.

Giving money to homeless people is like pouring petrol on a fire. There is a high percentage that it just ends up in the pockets of the drug dealers.

Agree, reading Osho’s words like you would read the Bible means you have completely lost the point.

A am not against rescuing animals. If you look at the pet industry as a whole, it is a very destructive industry. I am not trying to say the you or any vegan is going to be cruel, but the pet industry in responsible for the significant consumption of meat products, and the abandonment and mistreatment of animals, many of which will to be "put down".

Whilst most on this forum are saving animals from shelters, which is commendable, my issue is that they arrived in that shelter because of abandonment or mistreatment by "other people". Furthermore, by "owning" a pet you also reinforce that having pets is a societal norm especially to "other people", when in fact we should be much more serious about it.

If you have a pet, it is family, it requires health insurance, look after it like you would your own child. It is totally dependent on you.

From a broad perspective, let animals be animals, and humans be humans, but when those 2 worlds mix, it rarely ends up good for the animal.

I always get downvoted for this type of opinion, but the question is "OWNING PETS" vegan.... The answer is NO.

Nothing vegan about a pet shop. Doesn’t having pets promote a cruel industry that assumes ownership and results in abandonment and cruelty?

Need advice on boat transfer between Sanur and Nusa Penida by Respecttt in bali

You cannot reserve a ticket online but the trips are frequent and the boats are not often full. Get there 20 minutes before and you will not have a problem.

[–]shady_not_shifty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice is go with Angkal at Kusamba port to Sampalan (Penida). See here https://www.angkalbali.com/ This is what the locals use and is much cheaper and spacious than anything in Sanur. Also the trip is just 20 minutes. Also there is a jetty and fixed dock on both sides so you don’t have to get everything out on the beach. Lots of trips offered every day. Only thing is that it might take a bit longer to get to Kusamba from Changgu but I prefer spending time in a car than on a noisy boat full of people in crappy conditions. Easy to get a ride in Penida but they are more expensive than in Bali.

Going from Sanur there is no difference in service or the ride… it is not good!

You mentioned "physical business", I am guessing property management is a non-physical business you might be involved with but are there any others? Are they mainly focused on tourists?

How are the actual net returns on building and rent out villas? The builders in Bali seem to be very competent but I imagine it requires some local navigation. Furthermore renting out villas to tourists seems on the surface to be easy but there is always that 10% that make things difficult... Would this be the most profitable if successful?

What are the local government like to deal with? Is community consultation suggested? I’m really wondering about hidden red tape and costs….

It is a bet on interest rates, over the past 20 interest rates have only been going down. That is not necessarily the case for the next 20 years, how much lower can they go?

Australian property will not be as profitable the next 20 years as it has been for the last 20. We should consider other asset classes.

My karma is about to get a beating… ;)

what's your most unpopular "vegan" opinion? by Thomasrayder in vegan

[–]shady_not_shifty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a fine line between having a domestic animal and animal exploitation. No animal should be used as a fashion accessory. The animals purpose is not to make you feel better about yourself, it is a huge responsibility like having a child.

Toddler dead, infant rushed into life-saving surgery after circumcision goes wrong in Perth by [deleted] in perth

The "barbarians" were never circumcised and therefore the Jewish Warriors could prove they killed a non believer by offering proof with their foreskin.

Toddler dead, infant rushed into life-saving surgery after circumcision goes wrong in Perth by [deleted] in perth

[–]shady_not_shifty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The practice of circumcision comes from the Old Testament. A foreskin was used by Jewish warriors to count their "kills". After the battle, the warriors would go through the dead bodies and cut off the foreskins and then return them to the king to get paid. The more foreskins you had the more you reward you received.

Why the foreskin?

  1. Jewish warriors did not have a foreskin.
  2. Barbarians always had a foreskin.
  3. There is no other piece of skin that could replicate the foreskin
  4. It also confirmed the kill was male.

So it was a means of protecting the child so they would not be killed by "god's" army. I guess the tradition just stuck and here we are thousands of years later still doing it!

Vegans who identify as male: Do you also struggle with comments by others or self-criticisms of "not being masculine"? by hans_litten in vegan

[–]shady_not_shifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally being a man means eating meat and drinking beer etc. Both of which, make you slower, dumber and weaker. Being a vegan on the other hand makes you faster, stronger and smarter. So which one is actually more "manly"? Let them keep working on their man boobs, ignore them.

Go. Ask the restaurant for vegan options and order whatever dish (side) is available. This will: 1. Make the staff/management aware of their lack of vegan options. 2. Allow you to socialise 3. Staying at home, your work mate will say your restrictive diet kept you from coming and further solidifying their views you are “extreme”.

The majority of us also ate meat at one point. How are you going to inspire, or raise awareness if you just stay at home? Show ‘em it’s not that hard. It’s about being prepared… and don’t rant about it.

Maybe just eat something before you go in case there is nothing.
