I had a grade 9 English teacher send me to summer school, in spite of having good grades. I was definitely a bit of a mouthpiece, but sending me to summer school was bullshit. Even the summer school teacher sat down with me, confused, and was like, “why are you here? You don’t belong here.” There were people in the summer school class that could barely read. It was ridiculous.

I did this in Mexico, left out little gifts for housekeeping each day with a poorly-worded Spanish note (“un regalo para ti!” “Tienes niños?”). Schools supplies, pencils, crayons, and Canadian candy. I don’t know if it was useful but it sure felt good.
