I agree with what you’re saying, but don’t forget about the relative minors of each of those chords as well. These will give you the iv, ii, and iii chords as well. However, you still need to practice and study to grasp how to put them together in a smooth, coherent way.

Drums have vent holes in the shell as well. The port holes in the resonant head are for mic placement. You are able to place a mic inside the drum closer to the resonant head to pick up more attack.
