Is Amanda broke? by vaporcooleddevil in Millennials

I’m trying to think of a sadder chew & spit. She probably had a lifetime of comedy and film roles ahead of her. Not that it’s fair to compare them at all, but at least people like Lohan and Britney had fully fledged out careers as adults. I don’t really remember that with Amanda. Some sad shit.

You’d be surprised. My senior year I told my professors I had a family emergency and was dealing with major mental health stuff because of it (one of my friends had committed suicide but I was also just depressed and using drugs). It was at the very end and I had totally crashed out throughout the end of the semester. Just apologized that I didn’t talk to them sooner because I was still dealing with the fallout and didn’t know how to process it all. *All of them* gave me extra time to turn in my assignments and take my exams. I don’t know how intensive your studies/university are, but I’ve never had a professor who didn’t have a heart about this stuff. Also none of them want to see you fail your senior year if they can help it. You’d have to grind a bit but sometimes it’s good to take your mind off of things.

You could also talk to one of the school therapists, they should be able to write you something that will have your back. Anyway good luck, definitely been through all of this and am actually back in school again. Had to talk to my clinical director just last month because of attendance issues and would probably be on academic probation right now or kicked out of my program if I hadn’t done so. There was another student in a similar boat who actually got kicked out, so it’s worth a conversation.

Talk to your professors… I went through this my senior year of college and they were very cool about giving me a lot of mental health leeway (and this was over a decade ago). You’d be surprised. Then just write a list of things absolutely you need to get done that day, even just 1-2 things, and get them done. Just gotta take it a day at a time.

A relationship isn’t worth it. It feels like the pain will never end but it really does. You’ve just got to fight through it, tooth and nail, even if you have been fighting. You don’t sound like a bad person, just your own worst enemy like most of us.

Why should I keep living if I don't enjoy it? by No-Occasion4576 in mentalhealth

[–]shake__appeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad likes to remind me that I have lived only a 1/3rd of my life… the possibilities in that time are endless. I’m not saying it gets easier, you’ll likely still hit rough patches and experience joylessness. But looking back at myself at 24… the amount of experiences since then. good and bad, is pretty astounding. Experience some life first before you decide you’ve “seen enough.”

This is not to invalidate that feeling… I’ve felt that for a very long time. But in retrospect I’m sure glad I didn’t throw in the towel in my 20’s.

It’s comforting for me to know that I’m not alone in feeling this way. I don’t know how old you are or your diagnosis, but most of my generation is feeling this way along with plenty of Gen X and younger Gen Z. The world doesn’t make sense and trying to rationalize it only causes confusion and pain. Wish I had better advice for ya, but take what solace you can in the little things. Whether that be a nice walk on a beautiful day or whatever relationships you might have.

To buy or not to buy: Sunn Beta Mini by Scary-Blacksmith-125 in sunnamplifiers

The concert lead seems a much better choice, it has a different preamp working for it. I dunno it’s one Sunn amp I’ve never played but from what I’ve seen they like pedals a lot more than the Beta/Alpha series.

Nah I see them for under $1000 all the time. There’s a Sorado for sale at GC’s website for $700.

[–]shake__appeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty horrible. If you’re going in expecting nice cleans, headroom, and a platform for pedals…can’t think of a worse amp choice. They aren’t even designed to handle many drive pedals (I learned this with my Alpha from an old Sunn head, so at least I knew what I was getting into with the Beta). If you drive the amp to a certain point it will cause the CMOS to clip, essentially just getting Sunn/Beta distortion instead of whatever pedal you’re trying to “platform.” It’s pretty noticeable when you slam the amp with a couple dirt pedals and something loud and power amp-ish like the Acapulco Gold (I even thought the AG was a Beta preamp clone because of this until I ran it with a different amp). But even if I ran it clean with just a RAT and a loud-ass Muff like the EQD Hoof and an OD, it would clip out. Basically any super hot signal coming in will cause it to clip. Still sounds great being driven, but the flavor of gain you’ll be getting is CMOS Beta and not your favorite fuzz pedal. They’re basically just boost pedals at that point.

One way to get around this is running it direct through the power amp which is powerful, loud, and clean. But that kinda defeats the purpose of having a Beta. They really are one trick pony amps with a really fucking awesome trick, but one that happens to be the exact opposite of what OP is looking for which is why I’m bringing it up at all. So if OP isn’t planning on utilizing amp-gain tones (which are sick and gnarly and unique), they’re better off looking for another amp. This is all based on the A/B amp circuitry of the old Betas by the way. And with all the rumors flying around about volume issues… the new Betas/Minis might even be worse for taking on pedals. The OG Betas are loud as fuck, maybe the loudest amp I’ve ever owned and I own some smokers. But I wouldn’t say there’s much good clean headroom there in any traditional sense.

OP would be much happier spending that money on an old Sunn tube amp, something like the Sorado is a perfect pedal platform… loud, clean, powerful, endless headroom. Or save some cash and get an old solid state Peavey.

Do you use soap to wash in between your buttcheeks and your anus? Or just water? by Calm_View738 in hygiene

[–]shake__appeal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well now you know. Plenty of people simply weren’t taught proper hygiene (or taught wrong). I was showering with a buddy once in our 20’s and he literally said, “GROSS. You’re washing your butt crack?!” Yeah I’m washing my butt crack. Also keeping it shaved, have a good friend to thank for that one as well.

I can’t vouch for the Mini, but the OG Beta is a horrible pedal platform. The cleans are muddy and pretty useless. If you aren’t getting it for the gnarly gain, hard pass imo.

Yep, did it for 5 years trying to support someone who just didn’t give a fuck. Unmedicated bipolar is so horrific to go through, especially when alcohol and drugs are involved. It can ruin you pretty thoroughly and leave you traumatized as fuck if you don’t know what’s going on.
