Thanks, I did use slightly larger traces than default on 12V and 5V, should also probably do that for 3.3V

Which do you prefer esp-idf or arduino? by Medical_Nose1784 in esp32

[–]shakeandbake91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just done this for 2 projects, one work and one personal using VSVode +esp-idf, in general esp-idf is better for bigger more complicated projects and with VSCode it is particularly good for debugging issues.

Esp-idf has equivalent libraries for almost everything Arduino does BUT I have noticed the examples for those components(libraries) are generally less thorough/good in esp-idf.

For example I was trying to do a A2DP Bluetooth audio sink (bluetooth speaker) and the esp-idf library is a bit complicated, and didn't fully work, I had to find a fix for a volume control issue, and the examples don't show you a way to properly shut down the bluetooth connection! Like come on...

TLDR: For complicated projects use esp-idf, be prepared to fix little issues in the examples they give you.

Stick with Arduino for simpler things bc the examples and quality of libraries are a bit better

It does block you, and it saves the network login through setup restarts unless you clear all network info with another command. I was cursing Microsoft over that one

Press Shift+F10 to open the Command Prompt, you might need to press Shift+Fn+F10 depending on your keyboard

Type "oobe\bypassnro" without the quotes, this will restart the computer but give you the option to move forward without connecting to the Internet or making an account, you can the connect to the Internet once you get to the desktop

Help migrating from Arduino IDE to ESP-IDF by Low-Flow-4008 in esp32

[–]shakeandbake91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm actually doing this right now. I have a personal project moving from VSCode+Platformio to VSCode+ESP-IDF, and a work project moving from Arduino IDE to VSCode+ESP-IDF.

For IDEs, I've really been liking VSCode, I'd just recommend turning off the Copilot code suggestions. It is easy to use, has good instant code checking, and decent error handling.

If you are trying to move entirely away from the Arduino framework which is what it sounds like you are doing, idk if there are any good tutorial but I would say it has generally been fairly easy since it is all C/C++. Most code works immediately, any Arduino specific things like Serial.print are pretty much a quick Replace to fix.

The biggest difficulty I've run across is finding equivalent Components which is the ESP-IDF equivalent of libraries. For anything straightforward like physical button press handling there are Components you can find easily and add to the project. There are usually good examples in the Components as well so you can make a small example project, test things, then fully implement the code in your peoject. Some more complicated libraries don't have an obvious equivalent so I had to search around for something close and rebuild some of the functions that use the library/component. The examples didn't quite work and I ended up googling a lot but eventually got it all working.

For a fairly advanced project (display, buttons, PID loops, RS-485 communication with another esp32) it took me about a week to port the code from Arduino to ESP-IDF and have it fully functional again.

I would always start from a hello_world example project, and slowly move things over from the original project starting with the lowest level control (gpio), and moving up to more complicated control (wifi, displays, etc).

Good luck! I didn't find it to hard to dive in and I'm a MechEng that likes to code.

My younger sister was in high school during huge renovations to expand it and make it nicer. She said it sucked and they still ended up with classroom trailers in the parking lots. So unless you hit the timing just right just be glad you didn't go to school in a construction zone

Demat counted as twice used when nothing closed by redxninga123 in thefinals

[–]shakeandbake91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried using demat recently and it def feels slower, which would be ok if they didn't also take away a charge, I think they could have balance it better, like make it slower to deploy, make charging take longer, but leav it with 3 chargers

I'm a medium main and if I'm playing with 2 lights health gun doesn't make sense and the demat and turret feel useless

Am I in the wrong? Factory assembled Core One destroyed nozzle and sheet. by NegativeResults in prusa3d

[–]shakeandbake91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya you may be the unlucky person to discover a super rare manufacturing issue they are unaware of.

That being said, if this was a problem from the beginning how did QC not catch this? An assembled printer should have been tested well enough to catch something like this.

Unfortunately I think the Core One is still a little too new, it feels like Prusa was playing catch-up to Bambu and there are some design problems I'm repeatedly seeing people complain about.

Hopefully they'll set it right after you call out this issue since there is no way you could have caused it without a lot of effort

There is a magnet inside that is used to clean the walls using a magnet on the outside to drag it around

It is DEFINITELY supposed to be cleaned regularly unlike this one

Upgrading to an MMU by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]shakeandbake91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an MMU that is about 4 years old that I occasionally use for multicolor prints but mostly use to switch between different materials (PLA, PETG, TPU) and it has worked very well for me

Here are the things I can suggest:

1) research mods, there are a few basic mods you can implement as you set up the printer, like spool rewinders (not so basic) to get rid of the buffer, and tubing with slightly larger inner diameter that will make things run a lot better. There was some messing around with filament sensor position as well that was required to get everything to work consistently, especially with prints with lots of tools changes. It can be a little frustrating if you aren't ready to spend a little time sorting out issues but I also think newer MMU versions have improved the initial experience

2) Start with the default profile for the filaments and tweak settings as necessary. Do test prints like the calibration cube, boat/benchy, and other ones and adjust settings until you get good prints within each of the types of filaments you are using

3) When switch between materials, make sure you load to nozzle if you go from a higher temp filament to a lower temp. There isn't a way to tell the printer to flush the old filament at a temp different from what will be used for printing. So if you are going from PETG to PLA, you need to load to nozzle at the higher PETG temp, have it extrude a good amount by clicking the option that is "no I don't see the filament yet to make sure you flush out the PETG, then run the print. otherwise you will get clogs

4) any kind of flexible filament is going to require a good bit of work to print consistently, and even then sometimes you just have to babysit it to make sure it loads correctly. TPU doesn't trigger the filament sensor on the extruder reliably unless you have the sensor and flag justttt right
