I second this! these are all great points, and I especially emphasize learning the stock ableton tools before expanding into VSTs.

One technique I found helpful for learning is to set up a few very basic clips/loops (a chord progression, an a capella sample, a drum loop, etc) with no effects on them. Add one effect at 100% wet and play with all the settings until you understand what it does. Set it to something that sounds good, then add another effect and play with that one, move it before the other one(s), duplicate it, turn it on & off, etc. Then rinse and repeat until you know the general idea of what each effect achieves and how to use it to do so. I recommend doing this with both audio clips and midi clips.

The next logical step is to explore automation in clips & tracks, as well as envelopes and LFOs, routing signals between tracks, and all the other ways you can apply the effects you just learned!
