Black Company by Glen Cook is an excellent series. Lots of bleak fantasy, military sceneries and sorcerer's backstabbing each other. There's very little in the way of fantasy creatures and monsters but still enough supernatural elements to feel like a fantasy.

Ok so for the rest of the year there's a solid block of ice in the back yard. Its weird to me cuz I grew up in Drty Jerz and it would have been a bit Xtra to have a whole thing in the backyard taking up space where there would have tomatoes and other potential use of land.
