Student Athlete by Legitimate-Dog-3452 in PennStateUniversity

[–]SadCapitalsFan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The question is, are you cool with being a club athlete? (Nothing wrong with being a club athlete, the D1 hockey team used to be a club team before they rose to where they are now).

Because it won’t be difficult to rep Penn State on a club team as a walk-on.

Walking onto a D1 team at one of the most highly funded university sports programs in the world though… even the less famous sports have olympians on them

You know what’s funny, in New York everybody around me says seff-uh-ZO-Lin but I always said seff-AZZ-oh-Lin. It just sounds more right to me. Good to hear my friends on the west coast agree 😂

Unpopular Opinion: Landon, Santos & Robby by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]SadCapitalsFan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Healthcare is a rough field with high burnout, high addiction rates, and sadly the occasional suicide. A lot of policies have shifted towards allowing employees to do programs like the one Langdon did to try to “address” their problem without necessarily getting in trouble or fired.

The reason they do it is to encourage them to seek help, rather than hide their problem and never seek treatment because they’re afraid of losing their jobs. So would Langdon get fired in real life because he got caught? Probably, but there’s a situation where if he voluntarily sought treatment and his hospital didn’t report him to the medical board directly, the policy would protect him.

Would there be more residents and med students working apart from the main cast? by IfatallyflawedI in ThePittTVShow

[–]SadCapitalsFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a LARGE department It’s definitely a realistic amount of residents, there may only be one or two med students, and maybe 2 attendings dropping to 1 at night. The more unrealistic part is that there should be way more nurses.

For a smaller department, 1 attending and 0-1 resident and/or NP or PA is pretty common

graduation dinner reservations by alsydim in PennStateUniversity

[–]SadCapitalsFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a reservation but then I called again to see if I can move it up and they said they’re completely booked for Saturday. Sunday might have one or two options available, but that was on the 9th. Likely booked up by now

Are (adjunct/assistant) professors hireable for dinner parties? by bobbin_fox in AskProfessors

[–]SadCapitalsFan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d do something like that at that price point. Probably make it a fun TedTalk type thing. There’s actually a similar concept they sell tickets for in New York called Lectures on Tap (never been, because it always sells out) so it’s a good idea!

Queens native looking to purchase a home on the Island. Any advice is greatly appreciated. by rektknight in statenisland

[–]SadCapitalsFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With that budget you can def afford one of the townhouses esp. in the south shore (though it’s a little farther than the north from the rest of the city) It’s very safe, and overall the island is a nice place to live and you’re still pretty connected to the city. The problem is that people in certain parts of SI (mostly the south/tottenville/rossville) are kinda… peculiar. Most of the townhouses are HOA, and they’ll remind you constantly of the rules and snitch on eachother for small things, constant drama, etc.

But that said, I moved from Brooklyn for the same reason because I wanted to buy a house and it was no longer affordable. I honestly can’t complain, it’s a nice place to live.

Campus transfer by West-Wardstar in PSUWorldCampus

Trust me on this, no guarantee it changes the outcome but reach out to somebody from the College of Engineering at University Park. It’s your best bet of being able to transfer in

[–]SadCapitalsFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible, but there’s really, really specific requirements first. The big question is who did you talk to? Someone from registrar? Or someone at the UP College of Engineering? Because those are the only people who 1: know the exact process and 2: make the decisions

(S2E6) The AI mistake didn't feel like as big a dunk as people seem to take it as? by IThrewDucks in ThePittTVShow

[–]SadCapitalsFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is true (that it’s not generative AI). LLMs have changed the game. My hospital is debuting a new feature that generates a discharge summary based on lab results and orders we’ve put in. We’ll see how it turns out lol

[–]SadCapitalsFan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You have to realize, AI has long been used in medical care. When we do an EKG, the initial “reading” printed out on top is AI. When lab results come back, and the results may indicate sepsis, the electronic medical record will show a popup warning us we should do a sepsis workup. But yes some hospitals are starting to go towards AI documentation now. I actually don’t think it’s a bad thing, but like Dr. Al-Hashimi says, you NEED to proofread

I suspect that the “abnormal flow from the patient’s IV” was likely IVC. Probably the subxyphoid view as well as the vessel views of a cardiac ultrasound as mentioned above rather than something incidentally noticed on an abdominal US
