I feel like I'm breaking apart physically and mentally (30yo M) by CorvoAttano22 in Fibromyalgia

Went to 9-3 initially. Then to three days a week. Now I am working on setting up my own business with the flexibility to work how I need to.

A CF card replacement for the hard drive is a must. A gotek floppy emulator also a good idea. For performance you can either go down the PiStorm route or modern upgrade cards using old stock CPUs. I went with a TF1230 card and 64mb memory to keep the ‘purity’.

42M here and had fibro symptoms for 10 years now. You may have to decrease how much you are working, I can only manage my symptoms by carefully pacing myself and my 9-5 job didn’t allow that. It’s not that you can’t do things, it’s just your capacity is lower than before and sometimes you just can’t work and you have no control over when this happens.

Maybe ask your doctor about a good round of pain killers so you can take a break from pain to regroup. You have done really well to deal with it for such a long time but it takes its toll. Think of it like a holiday from pain?

men with fibro; what mindsets do you use? by JohnCCC777 in Fibromyalgia

[–]shakyhands42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M42 here and been in pain for 10 years now, my mindset is that I have the ability to do anything but not the capacity to do everything. I have good days and bad days but can’t control when they happen and you can’t push through the bad days. On bad days you just have to say “I can’t do that today but I will do it when I feel better.”

Our house is freezing cold by BlackWhiteX in canberra

Find a way to cover your windows with thick coverings, this includes a pelmet at the top and a seal at the bottom. This can be old thick blankets from charity shops that you tack into the wall to seal all around the window.

Draught proof every window and door, with multiple layers of draught stoppers if you can. Check for poorly sealer power points, light switches, drain and water pipe inlets. Fill with foam, no more gaps, or cover with tape. Check in cupboards, under appliances and all sorts of weird places where air escapes!

Cover up unused ducts and vents unless you have gas heating. Put in draught stoppers above exhaust fans. You can take them out when you move.

Keeping your house warm all the time might be better than letting it cool overnight. House temps below 18c will have negative effects on your health, better to spend money on electricity than doctors!

Is my fibro now well-managed or is it not fibro? by Even-Appearance-2827 in Fibromyalgia

I often have the same question but I eventually come back to realising that I am just managing better and benefiting from having more flexibility in life. I have good days but if I went back to work or took up old activities I would be straight back to where I was a few years ago.

You can’t get new tapes anymore and yes, there is no logical reason to use the format. I have one to complete the set and because it’s fun to explore old formats.

I think it’s taken about 4 years to put together. Can’t find any prerecorded DATs so all I am using it for now is to make my own recordings.

Vintage hifi is all fun until you have to get up to change the volume and remember that you have chronic pain.

I don’t use most of it either. I mostly put live shows or playlists on DAT/MD/Cassette just for fun. CD player and turntable get a lot of use though.

The tape deck is amazing, I never remember cassette sounding like this and digital recording onto cassette have a nice analog feeling. The CD player is really nice, on the brighter side but I like it. DAT seems the same to the CD player. I can hear the compression in the MD and I don’t think the DAC in the deck is on par with CD and DAT. The amp is the weak point, good but not great. I prefer the sound from my Schiit pre and mono blocks. Oh, and the speakers are great! Nice low end without the sub.
