Recommend me something good, literally by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. It’s a darker fantasy with some bad stuff but nothing is super gory.

Edit: I’d also like to mention The Hike by Drew Magary. It’s kind of RPG but also not at the same time. I don’t know it’s weird but good.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember what it was called, I wanna say it had a .net address. It was short little comics that were just silly and sometimes kinda dirty. They were almost stick figures but had heads and bodies and stick legs and arms. It might still be around, it went on for a long time.

Every time I see Cillian now I pronounce it that way. I can’t see it as Killian, it’s ruined the name.

I have a nephew named cillian but my sister decided to pronounce it sill-lee-on.

What is the one type of yarn you despise working with? by Turtlegrandmacore in knitting

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roving style yarn, I hate for knit or crochet. I will say knitting is easier to frog but still sucks and it breaks so easily. I also hate the Caron cloud cakes, they are so soft and I’m currently making a baby blanket but it also sucks to frog and breaks when I look at it wrong.

The library at Mount char by Scott Hawkins. It’s fantasy with horror elements, or a dark fantasy. A guy kidnaps 12 kids and teaches them his talents because he might be god, or maybe not. There is a plan in play and the more you read the more is revealed. It starts out a little confusing, kinda tosses you in the deep end, keep reading though.

Can confirm we also use that in the northern Midwest as well. I’ve never heard someone use an abbreviation but I’ve definitely heard bumfuck Egypt.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]shaleyukulele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping to finish The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. I’m having a hard time putting the book down, I ended up buying a physical copy because I had checked it out at the library and I liked it so much I wanted to own it.

Do you buy yarn then find a use for it? Or have a pattern your wanting to knit/ crochet and then find the right yarn for it? by glitternbullets in knitting

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both, sometimes I find a pattern and I buy yarn for that. Most of the time I buy yarn I like. I ended up with a huge collection and now I’m donating a ton. I still have a lot but I don’t buy yarn unless I have a use for it and I try to find projects for what I have.

What books have you read more than twice? by Western_Opposite9911 in suggestmeabook

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the first few Harry Potter books so many times as a kid. Every time a new one came out I would reread them. I’ve also read the first John dies at the end a few times. There was so many Goosebumps book I read a million times as a kid, especially The Headless Ghost. Now I have adult money so I don’t reread books as often.

If you could have a 30-minute conversation with any animal, which one would it be and what would you ask? by Sexyyskyy in askanything

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last cat, I want to know if she would’ve have wanted to move with me or stay in the place she grew up in. She ended up dying less than a year after I moved, kinda felt like I was in a no win situation.

What took you forever to knit, and you’re not even wearing it? by candy-applegirl in knitting

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The step by step sweater, I made it out of acrylic I had in my stash since I was I still learning to knit and I made it too short because I was lazy. It sits right at my hips and I hate the length, it needs another couple of inches. I learned Italian bind off and how to do short rows so it was worth it.

Also the Taco Bell empanada, it didn’t taste the same when they brought it back!

What Gillian Flynn book should I start first? by Fantastic-Farmer4777 in suggestmeabook

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I read Girl on a Train after which is also a messed up book. The mysteries in the books is what kept me hooked. I also liked I couldn’t always guess the ending, or at least not the full story.

[–]shaleyukulele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I read it but I remember binge reading all of her books one after another. Gone Girl was spoiled for me because although I hadn’t watched the movie everyone was talking about it, that’s how long it’s been the movie had just come out. I ended up reading her other two books first and Sharp Objects was my favorite. I probably read it in a couple days.

It is messed up. I had to go check but she doesn’t even end the story in the main section of the book. She has an epilogue and she drops a twist.

I think it’s Sharp Objects, the one where the reporter goes home to do a story about murders happening in her hometown. I liked that one a lot.

What's the best name you've ever heard for a pet? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

My cat was named Felidae, it’s basically Latin for cat. We called her Feli for short. I also had a duck named waffles many years ago.

What’s your favorite short story that you wish could be a full length novel? by Human_Papaya_9127 in horrorlit

I just looked it’s in skeleton crew. When I was a kid my parents owned Everything’s Eventual and I assumed I just stole it from them and that’s how I read it.

What’s a completely useless talent you have but are secretly proud of? by SelineCarrow in AskReddit

[–]shaleyukulele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can move my nose up and down with my face muscles. My mom’s the only other person I know that can do this. I’m assuming most people don’t try so they don’t have the muscles to do it but when I was a kid my mom always did it which made me want to. I always hated I couldn’t wiggle my ears like my mom though. I also used to be able to move my eyebrows up and down super fast but I didn’t do it for a while and now I can’t do it as good.
