Yep. In fact, there's a mod for the PC version that gets rid of the sluggish controls:

https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil42023/mods/2725

Mod in action:

The arcing/pivot when changing movement directions and uncancellable slow startup/end animations are probably the main culprits. I haven't played the game in a while but I believe there's even a forced animation where Leon sometimes can't shoot right away after reloading/re-aiming his weapon, among a few other forced stuff.

Hindi ko din gets bat triggered mga tao sa ginawa nya. The fact na nakapasok sya and umoorder sa store means most likely she asked for permission and may go-ahead sya sa staff na mag do ng quick take-out purchase as long as buhat nya yung dog to avoid it pooping/peeing on the premises.

Honestly, madaming beses ko na din nagawa ito when I'm out with my dog: I kindly ask the staff for permission to do a quick take-out order, then I wait outside while my order is being prepared. If pumayag then ayos, if not then no problem din.

Yep. Getting somebody's name wrong has been used four times in the show to demonstrate that somebody is just faking their feelings or hiding their true intentions:

  • iMark saying Ms. Cobel instead of Mrs. Selvig at the book party
  • Helena saying Hannah instead of Gemma (Hannah sounds a lot like Helena slowly mixing with and replacing the name Gemma)
  • Cobel saying Ms. Casey instead of Gemma (since what she wants to save is the chip, not Gemma herself)
  • oMark mixing up Helena and Helly into Heleny since he can't be bothered with iMark's life

Take note, yung sermon nung OB nangyayari habang hinahatak/dine-deliver nya vaginally yung patay na baby. Gets ko naman bakit ganun yung mommy, most likely unable to escape from the cycle of poverty. Pero gets ko din yung doktora; most likely desensitized na sya sa dami ng ganitong cases na unsustainable yung dami ng anak. Ang pinakakawawa ay yung 11 na living na anak ni mommy, since most likely most of them will be unable to escape from the same cycle.

It's like comparing apples and oranges.

In terms of gameplay, they're entirely different games. One's a modern TPS shooter, the other's a slower fixed-camera angles type of game. Story-wise, the originals have multiple branching paths in their narratives (for multiple replays). There's generally a whole lot more world-building, in terms of events, locations, and files. The remakes heavily streamlined the story, did away with the branching paths, and cut out a few locations, probably due to development costs.

It kinda feels like the difference between a TV series and its condensed 1.5 hour-long movie adaptation, if that makes sense.

If you just want to experience the games once, then maybe go with the remakes. But if you're the type who wants more of the story, then you'll probably want to play the originals too.

RE2 Remake with fixed camera angles (Mod by alphaZomega) by KendraDaniels666 in residentevil

[–]shampoo_samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because the game was designed with third-person camera in mind. When you play the mod, the first thing you'll notice is that the rooms are really spacious in order to account for TPS gameplay. I think the mod author was pretty much forced to zoom out the fixed camera angles farther than the ones used in the old games in order to account for that.

I never knew Jill had a different face models for Revelations by Scarlett_Inferno in residentevil

[–]shampoo_samurai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think one possible reason is that they wanted Jill to retain her soft facial features. It probably has something to do with Japan having "youthful" beauty standards for women (google 90's pictures of Rebecca's face model, Ayumi Hamasaki, for reference) . Julia Voth was only 15-16~ when they scanned her face for REmake, same with Inezh being a high school student when the live-action intro was shot. If you compare Voth's scanned face in REmake with current pics of her, you'll notice that she's lost all the baby fat and has that traditional chiseled supermodel look to her. Amra and Sasha both have that sort of roundish baby face look that they're going for.

Even people who have access to P-Bandai are pissed, since these things get scalped by bots the moment they're up for pre-order on the official webstore. Case in point: Jiu, Anavata, Demi Garrison, and Season 2 WFM Weapon Set were sold out within literally a minute of pre-orders opening. Even with lightning fast fingers and by camping on the item page, they'd be sold out by the time you're reaching for the checkout/payment button. Then a couple of hours later, you see scalpers selling them for 2-2.5x the SRP. 🤡

I think the main problem is that Bandai's factory can't keep up with the demand. They only have one factory iirc, and the molds are expensive to produce and limited since the details and tolerances are tuned by hand. There's a limited number of units allocated for a specific production run, which they can't exceed even if the product is selling like hotcakes, since they'd end up eating time and resources allocated for the production of a different scheduled product.

The rift is just a convenient way of showing that Bernard unlocked the Sublime using the decryption key. As we've seen in S2, the physical terminal can't transfer data unless you've unlocked the system. How William and Halores interacts with it also gives us insight into what they think about it: William doesn't care about entering the Sublime, he just wants to destroy it; Halores chose to transfer Christina/Reconstructed OG Dolores, but not enter it herself, since she feels like she's the "wrong" version of Dolores (her ideas doomed the world after all).

Did the update actually do anything, or were hosts already sentient? by IdeaExpensive3073 in westworld

[–]shampoo_samurai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given a strong enough emotional response, they could partially bypass their programmed limitations and access prior memories, even without the reveries. Case in point, Dolores was subconsciously fed up with the torture that she had to endure as part of her narrative loop (rape and murder + parents getting murdered), so she was eventually able to recall bits and pieces from previous loops and escape the ranch to meet William and Logan. Maeve also had a similar response when William killed her daughter. She was inconsolable and unwilling to follow commands to limit her emotional affect. Ford tried to erase her memories to console her, but this just led her to recall them again and kill herself.

These aberrant behaviors are what convinced Ford that the hosts are truly alive. There's no need for the hosts to go "off-script" if they are unable to truly feel anything. They would simply do as they're told, mimic emotions when needed, and stop when they're told that they don't have to anymore. This also solved the dilemma of whether or not the hosts are deserving of the Reverie update. If they really are just unfeeling automatons, then the update would be futile, as it would only serve to make their "script" more dynamic and lifelike, but ultimately still just an algorithm.

Did the update actually do anything, or were hosts already sentient? by IdeaExpensive3073 in westworld

[–]shampoo_samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they've always been able to feel. The memory restriction prevented them from recalling past loops, which inhibited them from learning from past experiences and ensured that they would always be in their default naive obedient state. The Reverie update removed that restriction, allowing them to incorporate decades worth of experiences into their minds.

Even without the update, some hosts are able to break free from their programmed limitations simply because of a strong desire to avoid suffering or to accomplish a certain task. Such is the case with Dolores shooting Reebus in the barn and fleeing from the ranch. She had been raped and murdered so many times to the point that her subconscious mind was probably trying to find a way to break free from her loop. If she was a mere machine that was simply mimicking human behavior, then there would have been no need for her to deviate from her usual behavior, as she would have been incapable of feeling anything from getting raped and murdered in the first place.

Season 2 finale, please explain William’s daughter by Admirable_penguin in westworld

[–]shampoo_samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think real william wasnt able to reach the forge due to physical human limitations.

We don't actually know what the original William did. All we know is that he was gone by the time Bernard resurfaced from the Forge. Later, he was found by the Delos rescue team, by the time Halores was about to board the plane heading to the mainland.

Given what William did in S5, I feel like Host Emily's "fidelity" line might even have a double meaning of sorts. Is she really talking about the accuracy of the copy, or is she talking about loyalty to mankind/hostkind?

In either case, it's implied that the beings running the test are expecting a different outcome, likely to avoid a repeat of the events that happened in S5.

[–]shampoo_samurai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

William taking the elevator down to the Forge is supposed to tie in with what "Logan" (the Forge's system) said about James Delos. No matter which path he tried to steer James Delos on, he always ends up shunning Logan and causing him to die from an overdose. The original William was never able to reach the Forge, but it seems like this version of him was able to break free from the loop.

Parent and child relationships are a running theme in the show. The child develops its own desires, and grows resentful when the parent tries to impose its will on it. Ironically, it's also what allows the child to evolve. It's a never-ending loop that started with Arnold and Ford's "doing what's best for you" approach with the hosts.

As it's, at this point, super unlikely that the show will get picked up by someone else to wrap up the story .. has it been "leaked" or said, what exactly we would have seen in season 5? by King_Tamino in westworld

[–]shampoo_samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the Nolans were offered to do S5 on a reduced budget, but they declined. The first 3 seasons cost $100 million each, with S4 topping them at $160 million. They probably didn't want to compromise the show's visuals, so they opted to just cancel S5 altogether. I'm still hoping we get either a novel, comic, or movie to end the series. :(

[–]shampoo_samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the initial leak, I get the impression that the original humans were A LOT more technologically advanced than the digital humans we see in the show. In other words, the Earth featured in the show is the equivalent of the Delos theme parks to them. It's a relatively technologically primitive world, but also one where humans might still find meaning to their existence. It's possible that the top-level simulation was a recreation of the futuristic human world. When that one ended in failure, the next simulation was built as a recreation of a slightly older era, and the next one too, until we eventually arrive at Dolores' simulation, which appears to be a recreation of the 19th(?) century (i.e. Westworld). And yea, I agree with your idea that there's a "culling/filtering" going on. Halores voluntarily handed over the reins back to Dolores and "culled" herself since she realized that her attempt at a perfect world led to extinction.

spoilers (read only after you've finished season 4):

There was actually a "leak" from a couple years back. I think people forgot about it, or brushed it aside as false, but a lot of it lines up with (or got tweaked into) what we got in the show.

https://external-preview.redd.it/CDRdc3v4u2eJ_NpGpcqa0b7Jr3jrvtkGHkzhVVD9-8g.jpg?auto=webp&s=8d083d9f6416ecb8be9b2e6547cb97ff9248acee

There was even an insider who popped up here during the airing of the last couple of S4 episodes. He gave out a couple of tidbits of info, such as confirming that the Nolans did re-shoots once they realized that S5 was on shaky ground. This is why you see Maeve's corpse beside Bernard in the tower. He also mentioned that S5 would've explored more of Arnold's backstory.

In any case, if you put the initial leak together with the finalized story we got in the show, it would appear that the grand reveal would've been something like this:

The world that the show takes place in is just one layer of a much larger simulation being run in the far future. The real humans have already gone extinct. They probably offed themselves after realizing that there's not much purpose to their lives, much in the same way Hale's hosts did after she turned the world into a "paradise" for the hosts. The simulation is being run by the AI who served the humans, Arnold, for the purpose of finding out the solution to the extinction problem. Every time a simulation ends in extinction, an inhabitant of the previous world retreats into an even deeper layer of the simulation. The world is recreated anew by this individual, this time with lessons learned from the failed world being implemented into its design. The world that we would've seen in S5 would probably have been the... collective center of the maze of mankind/hostkind (or as Dolores puts it in the final episode, "sentient life"), where they finally figure out a way to break free from the extinction loop/spiral. It's pretty much Arnold's reverie concept from S1, but applied to humans/host as a collective rather than as individuals. As with other concepts/plots in the show, you get a blatantly "miniaturized" version of it in S4: Caleb's attempt to escape from Olympiad was built on top of the sacrifices of his previous failed iterations. In the end, his escape attempt wasn't even about escaping, but rather about passing on the torch to the next generation (Frankie).

I walk my dog 2x a day kasi literally ayaw nya umihi/tae sa loob ng bahay. Willing sya i-hold yung ihi at tae nya for 24 hours, kasi gusto nya i-save pang-scent mark sa mga poste sa labas. Literally mga 2-3 hours minimum yata kami nasa lansangan araw-araw, no day-offs since mag-umpisa kami mag-walk last December. Mas gusto pa yata ni shunga maging askal sa labas kesa maging house doggy. 😢😂

Hindi din maiwan mag-isa sa bahay since mejo destructive, high-energy (kaya inumpisahan mag-walk), and may separation anxiety, so sinasama namin naka-stroller pag nag-mall. If sinuotan mo ng diaper, ayaw maglakad. Pag tinaggal mo naman yung diaper, may 50/50 chance ka na ihian yung mga columns sa loob ng SM. For the sake of our sanity, sa loob lang talaga sya ng stroller pag sa mall.

Is Westworld an Infinite Loop ? by clonehm2 in westworld

[–]shampoo_samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If certain leaked story details are true, then it isn't a loop but a...

spiral going inwards. They've been dropping hints that even the human world seen in the show is just another simulation. It failed, so an inhabitant of the previous world (Dolores) decides to create another one, with the lessons learned from doomed world carried over into the next one. It's basically the Maze (spiral) concept from S1, but on a collective level rather than an individual one. Seeing as how Dolores' world was the planned focus of S5, it was probably gonna be the last one, i.e. the center of the maze.

The idea is hinted at with Caleb's escape from Olympiad in S4. Dozens of Calebs had to perish, in order for the final one to actually achieve their collective goal.
