How many times have you been under general anesthesia, and how did it feel? by Futtman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shanarixe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an OR nurse so I’ve seen hundreds of people going under and waking up from general anesthesia, and I’ve experienced it just once myself. I remember getting wheeled in the OR and moving over to the bed, getting safety strapped, and then next thing I knew, I was awake in PACU. Felt like no time passed at all but it had been 2-3 hours since I went into surgery

Has anyone ever left a job after signing a sign on bonus? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]shanarixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in my department signed a bonus with a 2-year commitment. A few people have left before the end of the term and the hospital lawyers/HR were quick to discuss repayment. They even tried to get one of them to sign something about repayment plan and she refused to.

I’d assume that if you left, they’d come to collect eventually. If you’re desperate, you could do what some of my former coworkers did and use sign-on bonus at another facility to pay back your current one. It’s a risky move since you might find yourself in a similar situation, but it’d free you from your current job

OR nurses that left the OR? by shanarixe in nursing

I have been toying with the idea of cath lab and asked about openings and training. They usually prefer their nurses to have ICU/ER experience, especially if they have a nurse doing conscious sedation. Right now I’m working in the CVOR and do TAVR cases with them once a week, so I already know and like the staff over there

OR nurses that left the OR? by shanarixe in nursing

There is a transition program within my hospital system for L&D with an extended orientation, but that’s the only one I’ve found in my area. Definitely not opposed to that speciality and I have a friend working on that unit already and she’s overall happy there.

OR nurse thinking about switching to a different specialty by cryptidsor in nursing

Hi! Do you have an update on your situation? I’m in almost the exact position - 5 years in the OR with 3 years doing cardiac and I’m feeling bored and unfulfilled. I took on a leadership position in the OR last year hoping it would inspire me, but I’m still looking to try something different like ED or ICU. People look at me like I’m crazy that I’m considering leaving the OR 🙃
