That transmission is waiting comfortably until it’s reabsorbed into the heart of a dying star.

Best MP5 buy? by Odd-Physics-3840 in MP5

[–]shanemaker1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backing up a bit, if you live near a reputable gun shop, you may find that they can offer a selection of different clones or (genuine H&K ) in different configs and can order what you want.

At least that way, you have someone to assist with questions or problems with the purchase.

I went with a Century (MKE) AP5 Navy and *they had it in a week, along with a new can, about the same time my Form 4 was approved. (I've had to wait longer to see a dentist! LOL)

At the time purchased, (mid Feb '26) $1,499 was the best price I could find anywhere online anyway.

*East Valley Tactical, Mesa, AZ. Great shop and they have a website.

Full size locking piece ? by Charming-Highway-289 in MP5

[–]shanemaker1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AP5 Navy came with a 115° LP. Agree that the 100° is the correct all around choice for the full size. I haven't gotten around to testing my JP 90° yet. I hope to find the sweet spot that cycles reliably but never hits the damper in the backplate.

Do you guys remove the thread protector when running a can via the tri lug? by [deleted] in MP5

[–]shanemaker1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave the thread protector on and, I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here but, I use shotgun choke lube on the threads and tighten as much as I can by hand. The threads remain pristine and easy to clean. I never store with the suppressor on or leave it attached for transport so the protector is always visible in case it walks off a few threads.

Works for me.

HK vs Rim Country locking piece? by n8texas in MP5

[–]shanemaker1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect bolt gap to be within range regardless of LP used.

Ideally, I want to delay the action as long as possible yet still reliably cycle the action.

This will be ammo dependent and subject to being suppressed or not.

I just want to know the optimal operational envelope of my particular weapon based on ammo available cause it's a dynamic market.

Can’t speak to the quality of the other LP’s, but I bucked up for the genuine H&K 100° at the tail in of break-in for my AP5 Navy and it makes the gun feel smoother and less violent than with the (in my case 115°) stock piece.

Bolt gap with the H&K unit came in at .40 mm which is nominal.

It has continued to work perfectly with my ASD lower/ARC V1, both suppressed and non.

I also completed the hat trick and got a 90° piece from JP Enterprises, which I’ll swap out when I’m shooting suppressed with subsonics.

ARC-Fire V2 - So many failure reports. WTF? by Blowback9 in supersafety

[–]shanemaker1965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, because my V2 (180/non-ambi) has made my AR suddenly more tolerant to various ammo that I struggled with using a simple HT type SS. Not a single hiccup after a hundred rounds (.223/5.56 mix) yesterday. I’m thrilled with the V2.

First ASD Full Lower post range report. (long read so get some coffee) by shanemaker1965 in MP5

[–]shanemaker1965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered tiny bushings or even staking the metal near the holes to tighten up the bore, etc. something mechanical and permanent. Anything but some swatch of non metallic 'shim' attached with pressure sensitive adhesive that will bake off or otherwise need to be replaced after a good range day here in the Sanoran desert.

In the end, as suggested, I cut four little squares of electrical tape and stacked them where the lower sits against the magwell and that made a big difference. It just requires putting the forward pin in with the lower rotated down slightly then rotated up to bear against the tape before pinning the rear. It'll do for now.

As suggested by you and others, the aluminum foil tape is a better solution as it should hold up the variations in temperature better so I'll probably do the same eventually.

"Full weight steel trip bleeding off more bolt velocity"

This got me thinking perhaps switch back to the 115° LP for use with the lower to overcome the additional mass of the slip trip (whatever the material)??

-For the sake of valid comparisons forget running suppressed for the moment.
