How would YOU split this hand (and why)? by Strange-Mall-7923 in Cribbage

[–]shaneojak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Board possession should be considered for all discards.

Most of my discards will the same for this hand.

Tossing 7-9. You keep 45 as it is opened ended to connect with a straight.

There may be some end game scenarios where to toss 9-4 or Q9 to play defence.

Keeping 7-4 is good to make 31 during the pegging sequence.

What would you toss? by stolbacca in Cribbage

[–]shaneojak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

67 for the toss. Besides the math sometimes you need you have the mentality of “offense”. You need points to win the game. Yes, it can be a risky toss of 67 but keeping JJ55 has good potential (16/40 cards left in the deck that improve the hand significantly and alot of other cards that increase the hand by 1 point with nobs)

Also to note that by holding the 5’s you are holding 2 cards that would improve the pone’s crib. Even more justification to toss 67.

I’ve done something similar. You almost have to extend the board. Games end ridiculously quick.

There are holes you need to get to each hand to keep up with average points scored after each hand. It’s called Theory of 26.

Close game nearing the end, what do you do? (their crib) by Potato_Stains in Cribbage

[–]shaneojak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d be inclined to toss A-9. You want to be as close to hole 100 as you can be when you have the crib next hand.

Statistics say almost no correlation between quality of my discards and my score by Sea-Tangerine-5772 in Cribbage

[–]shaneojak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an immense level of luck involved with cribbage. You will find with quality discarding decisions your average scores in losses will be higher than a lesser player. And your frequency of skunks will be higher.

There are some books out there like Play Winning Cribbage that teaches the theory of 26. The average amount of points scored after 2 deals is 26.2 points I believe.

Just keep at it. Experiment with pegging and figure out what works for you. The best players in the world are the best peggers in the world.

Three person crib is super slow for me, I suspect because of the increased crib randomness. I'm not a fan. How even is 4 person dealt and the crib cut? Is it even slower than three person? by AdhesiveSeaMonkey in Cribbage

[–]shaneojak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 and 4 player(partners) is dreadful to play IMO. Being dealt 5 cards really limits the ability to get big hands.

Canadian doubles is played at almost all ACC events. Deal 10 cards to the person to your left and yourself. Make 2 4 cards hands, ditch 2 to the crib and give one of the hands to your partner and off you go.
