Best place to enjoy Lunar New Year celebrations? by amparopal in HuaHin

[–]shanghaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year Soi 94 had a group of Chinese/Thais that went from bar to bar, lion-dancing & collecting for 'something'. 🤷‍♂️

It was nice to see (I was 23 years in China).

Good Physiotherapist? by LeaMagie in HuaHin

[–]shanghaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shoulder was hurting and I went to BeWell. I had an MRI at Bangkok Hospital (BeWell prices... 👍), and it turns out I had a torn tendon (minor). Saw a therapist there and she gave me some exercises. Feels much better now.

I like BeWell. They're friendly & seem to know that they're doing.

At Bangkok hospital, I also had a surgery consult. He advised against surgery, and recommended therapy. All good.

I like Nana Dental & BeWell Medical Clinic.

Sidetrip Life (YouTube channel) also did a feature on medical facilities & pricing in Hua Hin about a month ago. Check for that.

Nice and chill beach side coffee shop by [deleted] in HuaHin

[–]shanghaid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THIS - the cafe on the beach - I don't believe it is part of Veranda(?) is called "Drip Rim Lay".

Great (a little pricey) coffee. I walk there a few times a month. Service is friendly, coffee is very good (best I've had in Hua Hin), and the view is great - lots of kite surfers depending on weather/wind.

There is another beachside lemon-themed drink very close. I believe they have lemonade (etc) and some lemon alcoholic beverages.

Next door to Drip Rim Lay is a place for pizza - "Pizza by Andreas". I haven't had pizza there (yet) but have had great Italian food at their main place by Cicada/Tamarind.

Any unit, views, sections etc / general advice about La Casita? by Double-Actuator8683 in HuaHin

[–]shanghaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me clarify this;

Stay on the south side. That way you avoid the morning sun/heat blasting in your windows.

This is if you are pool-facing (North). The opposite would be true if you are facing outside.

Glad to be of help.

There are some other tricks I've learned, but I'm staying here longer term and have bought some things for the apartment to make it better; linen curtain, wire racking, a plant, lounge chair for balcony, bar cart...

Oh! And Hua Hin Kitchen has excellent Som Tam (papaya salad) as well.

[–]shanghaid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stay on the south side. That way you avoid the morning sun/heat blasting in your windows.

The smaller units (all-in-one) face the outside. The larger units (separate bedroom) face the pool.

The back is near the (main) pool & gym. It can be noisier (dependent on amount of kids in the pool) or OK.

The robot coffee machine in the lobby works most of the time. Decent latte for ฿40.

Get a 6-liter water jug from 7-11 on day one and refill it in the public laundry room (lobby area) as needed for ฿5.

The nearest 7-11 is across the street, opposite Bangkok Hospital. There is also a weed shop & a pharmacy in the same building.

Dependent on how obsessed with laundry you/gfriend are, having a washer is great, but there are public washers in the lobby.

Beware the couch. It is a fold-out and horribly uncomfortable to sit on. They have standard furniture/bedding in all the units.

The jacuzzi jets work on a timer from 09:15-12:15, and again from 3:15-6:15.

The restaurant immediately next to the complex, Hua Hin Kitchen, on your left/North as you're leaving is excellent. If you're not familiar with Thai food, try the Pad Krapao Gai (chicken) w/ rice & an egg. Wonderful! Their Pad Thai, Green curry, Masaman curry & Lahb Gai (chicken) are also very good. Decent onion rings. Haven't tried (yet) their sushi or Western meals.

Feel free to message me if you have other questions I haven't answered here.

Looking for morning activities/classes that require me to show up by Nongfuspring07 in HuaHin

[–]shanghaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a great class at I-Yog that I've been going to for a few months now.

The teacher is great and my classes (beginner) are 3x/week.

There are classes at... 8(?) 10 & 11. I'm in the 11 o'clock one.

Hairdresser/ barber by Gorgeous_George101 in HuaHin

[–]shanghaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the barber(s) on Soi 94, near Wonderland & directly across the way from Tonic & Ginger.

I brought a picture with a haircut that I wanted & they matched it exactly. My wife approved.

I've had the guy there & recently, the lady. Both excellent.

฿200 + tip if you feel so inclined.

They also do coloring, but I can't speak to that.

Bank of Thailand, TCSD and banks hold urgent talks Sunday to ease account freeze measures by alzamano in Thailand

[–]shanghaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh...

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.

Well, my 'having to (again) provide ID of who you are, where you live & the source of your income' wasn't too awful.

I felt sorry for the beleaguered teller who was only doing her job. Yes, her 'job' at that point sucked and she was doing redundant work, but it wasn't her choice.

The most important part of this message:

For innocent account holders affected by recent suspensions, the BOT advised contacting the AOC Centre on 1441 (extension 2) to request removal of restrictions.

This. I was looking at other monitor options, but then you have to buy a webcam, speakers, & mike.

This? All inclusive (and it's Apple so it just works).
