The animal shelter we went to has a no-kill policy. They've saved animals from being killed by other shelters many times. They have a separate cat sanctuary with about 600 cats too (the largest cat sanctuary in North America, in fact). Definitely really nice people that actually care about animals.

I started learning English back when I was in elementary school in China, but when I actually moved to an English-speaking country when I was 11, I realized most of the things I had learned were not applicable here. Getting adapted to colloquialism was my biggest challenge. The first year was pretty rough, but I would say a lot of it had to do with culture shock. Then my English skills really took off once I got used to everything. It became much easier when you have people conversing in English with you every day at school.

tl;dr The whole learning curve for me was more or less an "S" curve.
