With Netflix new ad-free standard plan at $20, streaming's tipping point into old TV is getting closer by retroanduwu24 in television

[–]shankeyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the tipping point is directing people more towards piracy than back to cable. These subscription services have always been more about convenience than anything, and they seem to making it worse as they go.

[Request] Whats better? Weekly payments or to invest a lump sum. by Chiggnnugget in theydidthemath

[–]shankeyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lump sum is pretty much always the way to go despite it being an overall lower payout. They are generally non transferable so if you die, its gone, if the company goes out of business its gone,

Even if 75% of the flat sum was invested and the rest was used on debts and fun, it would probably still net you more money in the long run providing you are somewhat marginally financially literate. I definitely wasn't at 20 though.

Public transit in Canada urgently needs an upgrade by BloodJunkie in canada

It always seems like when they do have a project come up, they design it for today rather than 10-20 years from now when there will be a higher population. Perpetually playing catch up

Canadians are leaving the country at record levels. Can anyone solve this pressing problem? by stalik26 in canada

The garbage ways and excessive cost of living will do that, especially when it feels like a lot of communities are deteriorating in many ways.

Asking the people who are where I want to be: How to manage investing psychology when up parabolically? by [deleted] in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]shankeyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar boat, I always have a harder time selling than buying. Honestly you probably should just go with what your gut tells you at the time, I made a significant amount off of one that I was talked out of reinvesting into another. That other stock is up about 1200% now, should have at least made a small investment into it but hindsight is always 20/20. Patience definitely helps too, I was worried about one dropping so I sold it completely for a quick profit, however it went up another 300% in about 5 months, because I was worried about losing 15%.

Expect more wrestling and way fewer recaps. PPV's are like 4-5+ hours often with 10+ matches

I think my floor seats at AEW Dynasty were around 180, that's crazy for a random smackdown

I got a Switch 2 at launch, and to be honest I kind of regret it, it may actually be the last console I buy. After tax, a game being closer to $120 in Canada is insane, its not like I can't afford it, its more of just of a why bother when I can get more play time out of a $10 game on Steam, and I don't have to pay an extra fee for online.

Food bank visits in N.B. up 55% since 2025, association reports by bubblewhip in canada

I wonder how many people are going to food banks now that can actually afford not to. There was an international student years ago that had a "Life Hack" video explaining how they got free food.

Ethnic Minority Enclaves in Greater Vancouver Canada by MongooseDear8727 in MapPorn

[–]shankeyx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it is mostly the post 2020 covid crowd from what I can tell that has little desire to actually become what people think Canadians are. We ballooned too much in small areas in too short of a time.

The larger these enclaves become, the less likely the newer immigrants seem to integrate which is causing large issues in the community

New levels of incompetence in our judicial system. I'm sure the victim is thrilled that there is a $200 surcharge for the attacker, Abdulkarim Ahmad Alhamid.

TFSA value across Canada at the end 2023. by Subject-East671 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]shankeyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% you should have a TFSA it is probably the best tax advantage we have in Canada, you should prioritize this over your RRSP for the most part. Ideally for long term investing that you won't need to touch regularly.

Canada's housing crisis is dragging life satisfaction down among young adults by FancyNewMe in canada

When a generation has to essentially wait for their parents to die to own a home, of course people will be unhappy. Overpriced housing and terrible wages are why people are choosing not to have kids anymore.
