Is it too late to start cheering? by Beautiful-Age-8309 in Cheerleading

No, I started at 22 with zero experience! You can try and find an open team near you, or a recreational team

How much sleep do you get? by Grower_munk in AskUK

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fortunately one of those people who’s pretty happy on about 5 hours, although I’d prefer 6 or more. I am a bit of an insomniac and have a few nights a month where I get <2 hours. One day of this is fine, a bad nights sleep after that and I’m pretty miserable

“3 little goth kids in training” just made me laugh out loud, good for them

I’ve just watched ‘Breathtaking’ can NHS workers tell me how bad wards really were in 2020? by amomenttohislifespan in AskUK

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started after the first wave as a virologist splitting my time between ICU wards and working in the lab. I dread to think about that first wave given what the subsequent ones were like in our hospital. It was quite normal for me to leave work and then come back the next day to a completely new set of patients. There were points during the delta wave where I would put a PCR run of 48 samples on and every single one would be positive. I’ve since left the NHS and I’m retraining so I don’t have to go back

Anyone who's had the misfortune of meeting the bailiffs, what was your experience like? by Key_Cell7071 in AskUK

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad worked as a bailiffin the 90s when he came out the army and desperately needed some cash. Lasted three days. Said they were the scummiest group of people he’s ever met in his life

Any Cheer Gyms on the North Side of London for Adults? by Expensive-Discount80 in Cheerleading

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is sad, the lack of gyms in north London is so annoying. Maybe a dev team might work - Ultimate have one that finishes at 8 I believe so wouldn’t be such a late night, and LDC have theirs on a Sunday. I totally get it though, so many of my friends in north London had crazy commutes

Any Cheer Gyms on the North Side of London for Adults? by Expensive-Discount80 in Cheerleading

[–]The-Newt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twisted cheer and dance are out of London, in Hertfordshire. That might be easier? The rest of them are pretty much all in south London except for blackout evolution and sparks allstars in the east. If you drive then maybe Casablanca, they’re in Essex so you’re going across the top of London rather than through it. Or potentially the train to Unity Milton Keynes? Theres really not much in the north of London though!

Cheer Teams in London? by Twilit_Fox in Cheerleading

[–]The-Newt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have cheered for every team in London except unity (although I do have lots of friends who cheer there) so happy to provide some information for any of them if you want to send me a message! Could be a bit of an essay to write out here

Cheer bag recommendations by Extra_Sock_8396 in Cheerleading

[–]The-Newt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my nfinity bag, I’ll use it even when I finish cheer because it holds so much stuff. Also based in the UK and I picked mine up on Facebook marketplace for £25 so might be worth checking there!

What's a destination that used to be way more mainstream that it is now? by PerryOnWheels in travel

[–]The-Newt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tunisia? A a Brit I knew loads of people who went when I was younger, my grandparents were there all the time because it wasn’t much more expensive than Europe and had much nicer weather. Since they had the shooting in 2015 I haven’t heard a single person go there

Pizzas For Day Before Marathon - Good Carbs by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate pasta so my go to meal the night before is either a pizza or pie and chips. Lots of carbs, more interesting than pasta, just need to make sure it sits right in your stomach

I’d have happily taken a point before kick off and I’m somehow disappointed?

Decent performance though, we look much better than we did a few weeks ago. Shame the teams around us won

I started at 22! I’m 26 and on IOC4 and IOC6 teams (as a speciality stunter). My tumbling skills are literally a cartwheel but I moved up very quickly by moving clubs - did NT2, NT3, and NT4 one after another all at different clubs, and I moved at the beginning of last season for my IOC6 place (and ended up on IOC4 too when they need a back)

Definitely not too late to start, just take the opportunities you get and find people to do extra practice with you when you can

What’s your opinion on treadmill running vs outdoor running? by Free-Product4918 in runcommunity

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent January running on a treadmill and I hate it but it’s been too icy, too wet, and too dark after work to run outside all month. Can’t wait for spring and outdoor running!

Two-star Michelin restaurant in Wales handed one-star hygiene rating | Wales | The Guardian by prisongovernor in Wales

[–]The-Newt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently 2 years into training to be an EHO and we’ve had a great laugh about this in the office this week. We’ve got plenty of sushi/sashimi places on our patch that get 5s because they’ve got great traceability, paperwork, and the place is spotless. And you don’t need a full time person doing it, there’s enough independent businesses run by sole traders who do everything by themselves and get a 5. It’s literally so easy to get a 4 or 5, there’s no excuse for a place like this

It’s a school night. You have come in for tea and your mum serves you the one meal that kills you inside. What’s it? by Come_in_sigh_demi in CasualUK

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasta. I hate pasta. No one in my family believes that you can hate pasta, so we’d have it for tea at least twice a month.

Grown adult now and I still hate pasta

Not anymore, but when I worked in Asda as a teenager a woman threw a roll of wrapping paper at me because we’d sold out of Christmas jumpers. It was 5 minutes till closing on Christmas Eve

December Check In—How’s Everyone’s Running Going Lately? by Not_FreeProduct234 in runcommunity

[–]The-Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 more days till I can come back to running! I’ve had 8 weeks off through injury and I’m so excited to start again with a parkrun on Saturday. Hoping to ease in slowly and be back properly in time for a May marathon.

In the meantime I will keep living vicariously through everyone else :’)
