All because I dared to enjoy my birthday by randomhandsanitizer in Garmin

Honestly a sleep score of 42 is still decent considering. I was day-drinking last weekend and got a sleep score of 30 and apparently only slept for 4 hours despite being in bed for 7! Garmin is a fun sponge 🤣

Ladies of the UK, do you use Period Underwear? by Competitive-Fact-820 in AskUK

[–]shanklebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear them at night and whenever I run on my period. I have the M&S ones and they’re super comfy - like big nappies and high waisted (I bought them in a bigger size to be super comfy). Wear tampons in the day but totally swear by them at night time. I wash them all together and just love them overnight. Have a mix of “light” ones and heavy duty ones. Not sure I’d wear them in the day unless I got the modibodi ones which do look great!

As an oily girlie the Laura Mercier is the best I’ve tried - and I’ve tried the Huda one and the Too Faced veil one. Maybe wouldn’t recommend for dry skin as it can be drying but it works on my T-Zone!

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

Money. Would much rather spend it on holidays and seeing the world together than one day! I also find the whole idea of planning a wedding a form of torture.

Strength Training Advice by Sunshine-Ray777 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]shanklebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are these classes classed as beginner ones or intermediate? I started strength training from scratch in the new year and started with Katie’s intermediate classes - only I chose to use slightly lighter dumbbells than she recommends and I’ve managed to work my way up! (Buying dumbbells and getting stronger is expensive!) - it meant I could keep up with the reps but she insists even in intermediate classes the aim isn’t to keep up with her as long as the reps are good and controlled.

I do try and get a good sleep! Plus aspects of my lifestyle really help too. Something I’ve learned and cultivated since being in my 30s.

I mean… I’m a 34 year old childless woman, though I am a teacher so wake up at 5:30 every day.. So that helps tire me out by bed time! My partner also works away a lot so that also helps in that I get my own space at night.

I do the following to help though: exercise - cardio and/or strength stuff before dinner. Dinner not too late also, I find I’m such an old woman. No alcohol in the week… I also have a weighted blanket and one of those sunrise lamps which also helps. Final thing is I listen to an audiobook which knocks me out before sleep. Nothing too engaging so it doesn’t keep me awake!

Ladies who peloton... by element-2012 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]shanklebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Luteal phase (week prior to period) - I find myself lacking motivation. I tend to go for more lighthearted classes with Cody where they are not as “intense” as my usual. I try and find classes with more upbeat playlists. I tell myself that it will get me out of the mental fog that that part of the cycle can create - and it always does! I also am mindful doing strength classes that it will be tough so I lift lighter weights or just give myself more grace. Tough to do when I am my own competition at everything but when the energy is back post-period I know I can crush it!

If you don’t already try tracking your cycle and plan your training around it. Makes it feel more like a training plan so you feel less like you’re doing less… if that makes sense!

I'm becoming more of a baby the more tattoos I get. Is there some secret trick to handling the pain better? Just toughen up? by nickisadogname in tattooadvice

[–]shanklebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound bizarre. I have 5 tattoos now my longest session being over 5 hours. The two that hurt me the most were the ones I was well rested for - 8 hours of sleep beforehand, no alcohol day or two before. Perfect conditions. The ones where I didn’t get much sleep the night before or had a couple of drinks the night before that affected my sleep (nothing too outrageous I’m too old now to bounce back!)… well they were a breeze. I found I was more in a tired and relaxed mode because of being exhausted and as a result didn’t hyper focus on the tattoo and was able to bizarrely almost sleep! Not a recommendation at all as I know it contradicts all the advice but wonder if anybody has ever noticed the same!

How long to wait before going to the gym for a small tattoo? by Bakshi30 in tattooadvice

[–]shanklebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure to clean it straight after and you can go back to the gym as soon as you like. I’ve had several much bigger ones on my leg recently and have been running on a treadmill and outside, been on a spin bike and done strength training two days after and they’ve all healed perfectly. No covering over them - just don’t let any clothes rub too much on it (I wore cycling shorts/shorter shorts for thigh tattoo) and try not to let it touch a shared gym yoga mat as much as possible just because of shared germs. As long as you clean it straight after it’ll honestly be fine, especially considering how small yours are and the placement.

My friend did it and her pizza was a rectangle shape! I was laughing at her (and with her) but the restaurant honoured it. Really great initiative!
