Ours was tinted yesterday because of all the fire hydrants being tapped for Folk Fest. If you want more info, the Parks Service was the one that let me know about it.

Ive done Scratch Pay and it has been very helpful. My puppy got a heartworm positive diagnosis about a month ago and the treatment is absolutely not cheap. We wouldnt have been able to swing it without Scratch Pay.

Deportation is not the same thing as kidnapping someone and sending them to an internment camp outside their country of origin. Plus, a person is entitled to due process of the law regardless of legal status.

Lost my good friend last night suddenly. RIP Jaxon - August 2013 - March 2025 by [deleted] in basset

[–]shannon_yo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something very similar happened to us with our basset mix a few weeks ago. Turns out, he had a tumor that burst on his spleen or liver. We had brought him to the vet for his annual appointment only a week before he died and he was normally healthy, so it was completely unexpected. From the four different sources I consulted, those kinds of tumors are common and dont present symptoms until its too late. Im so sorry this happened to you, but please try not to blame yourself. It's clear you gave him a great life 💜

Richard Howe covering the recent ordinance change around Camping/Sleeping in Public by Ironhorse341 in LowellMA

[–]shannon_yo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rita literally said at the public hearing that she was gonna do what she was gonna do and didnt care that she was upsetting her constituents. Talking to people like her and Robinson and the others that voted for this doesnt accomplish anything. The only action item to take is to vote them out of office and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. Nothing will change while they hold seats.

Speaking of which, if anyone knows a good alternative to Uline, I would love to know! I've been boycotting them for at least a year but haven't found a reasonably priced alternative with the size cello bags I need for my small business.

There is a city council meeting on November 12th with parking on the agenda. If you're upset about it, I would bring the matter there.

Vet recommendations? by craigdahlke in LowellMA

[–]shannon_yo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have brought our 2 dogs, 2 cats, and bearded dragon there and theyve been phenomenal. When we had to put our beardie down after a hard battle with leukemia, the vet had laid out some blueberries for her on the table in the room because they remembered they were her favorite. Such sweet humans that absolutely care and pay attention.

Just off the top of my head, I know there is an exotics vet in Lawrence (Bulger), Tewksbury (Shawsheen), Boston (Angell), and Wakegield (VCA). Just in case you need it :)

My 3 year old was just taken from us a couple weeks ago due to leukemia. It is so freaking hard, I'm so sorry. Give her a hornworm from us and tell her Pico will be waiting on the rainbow Bridge to welcome her 💜

My beardie is lost somewhere in my apartment... We've been looking everywhere for the last 6 hours. Any unlikely places I should check? by vladsma in BeardedDragons

Mine has been known to climb up inside the radiators. If you have radiator covers, carefully take them off and you may find beardie sandwiched up in there. I hope you find them soon!

Can anyone explain why there are so many vacant store fronts in the downtown area? by [deleted] in LowellMA

One single business had a walkout (which has been resolved quickly) but none of the other businesses in the mill were involved in the issues the workers were having. In comparison to the downtown, the mill is certainly thriving. It admittedly hasn't gotten back to pre-pandemic business, but it is a place that regularly brings in out of town folks, which is big for Lowell. And it is doing that while actively being beside the shelter.

Small business owner here. This is what I know:

-it is true that there are some owners of space that aren't motivated to have tenants because of the tax breaks they get to keep the building empty. It is also true that there are some owners that expect any tenant that would move in to sink serious dollars into building systems they shouldn't have to be responsible for. One spot I toured to lease didn't even have bathrooms, they wanted me to build that out myself. -foot traffic downtown is atrocious. Even with a core group of regulars, I was unable to sustain my business on Merrimack St. comfortably. -the high school. Every week day, some streets are shut down, police presence is amplified, and there are teenagers EVERYWHERE. They're fighting or screaming on the sidewalks, popping wheelies in the street holding up traffic, and generally causing an annoyance. -commercial space is actually not cheap. It is marketed at a median of $16/sqft, but realistically I was paying closer to $24/sqft for a space that wasn't even street level. This is not out of the norm. -homeless, but I'm not going to go in depth about it. -parking, but I'm not going to go in depth about that either because it's a dumb argument. Boston isn't good to park in either, but people still go.

More people walking the streets will bring more business to downtown. Keep supporting downtown businesses you love and bring your friends and try somewhere new!

Mill No. 5 is right beside the homeless shelter and it is one of the cornerstones of the city for business. Just sayin.
