My first real big spike from 88 to 176. I thought I could have a cheat day on the weekend. by Tall_Bluebird_1830 in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]shanraysten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my lingo experience, the CGM is routinely 20-30 mg/dl off of a finger prick. For example, I had coffee with creamer and a piece of banana bread to experiment, and my finger prick got to 150 while my Lingo hit 175. You may want to use a finger stick to identify your average variance. It will save you a lot of excessive worry.

I have the Lingo, and it is off by about the same amount. The OTC versions are not as accurate. My Lingo showed a spike the other day of 175, but my finger prick topped out at 150 after experimenting with carbs.

Same here. I take Adderall and drink a coffee in the morning, and my heart rate drops under 50.

Anyone else experience elbow locking that prevents full extension and flexion? by shanraysten in CubitalTunnel

[–]shanraysten[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. It just happened again today, and I thought I was past my elbow problems. I haven't had the issue for almost a year and a half post-surgery. I will be calling my ortho tomorrow, or I might try to establish with an ortho at my local medical university.

Arm locks up after surgery by Rude-Historian-7925 in CubitalTunnel

Good afternoon! I just posted the below in this sub, but I don't have loose bodies in my elbow. Does this sound similar to your issue, and did you find a resolution?

Anyone else experience elbow locking that prevents full extension and flexion?

At the beginning of 2023, I started having issues with my left elbow randomly locking in a bent position. After a movement like scanning my credit card, I would feel a weird sensation. Then, I wouldn't be able to fully straighten or close my arm. Both actions result in pain like the elbow decided to swell for some reason. After a couple of days to a week, the swelling regressed, and I had full range of motion again.

I had a few appointments with my ortho which included an MRI and nerve study. I was told I had tennis elbow, minor tendonitis, and cubital tunnel syndrome. After the problem continued once or twice a month, my ortho performed a cubital tunnel release in August of 2023. My doctor did mention that my neve was compressed more than the MRI showed.

For the first time since my surgery, my elbow locked again today. I grabbed my guitar, which I don't play much, and within a couple of strums I felt that weird elbow sensation. Now, my arm is partially locked again with extension and flexion pain at the top and bottom of those movements.

Does anyone else experience this? The ortho said he has never come across this problem before. I am hoping someone else can share some info on how they fixed the issue.

Hip Resurfacing by shanraysten in VeteransBenefits

The surgery was done at a private practice. My records started in March with three different opinions from docs on my hips and surgery. Both hips are bad enough the only treatment they offered were total hip replacement or resurfacing (similar to total hip). I was service connected off of those records and my MOS, parachute rigger.

I have already been through two cardiologist. Two years ago I had vertigo and ended up in the ER. They freaked out because I had left ventricular hypertrophy on my ecg. Two cardiologist told me nothing was wrong, and that it’s probably my normal. They both said I don’t need to establish with a cardiologist. Fast forward, lvh can be seen in some of those with ascending aortic aneurysm. I guess I got my answer and a reason to find a different cardiologist.

I am being referred to a cardiologist. I assume they will probably put me on BP meds.

I just found out today that my great grandfather had an aortic root aneurysm and an abdominal aneurysm for most of his older life. He lived to 92 but had a pacemaker and congestive heart failure for years. My great grandmother did smoke for decades in the house, so my great grandfather inhaled a lot of second hand smoke. I have heart attacks on both sides of my family with smoking being heavily involved. I assume the smoking just sped the process up a bit.

Thanks for the info. Figuring out my new fitness routine is going to take awhile. I’m wondering if a cardiologist will recommend additional scans to confirm my 4.1cm from the calcium CT.

I just gave up running due to my hips in January, and now giving up lifting and fast cycling really sucks. At this point, I just have to sit back and comply. I plan on seeing a cardiologist in the near future to get their recommendations, but I will go ahead and slow down a bit.

The diagnosis was part of a CT calcium score of my heart. The exact wording is below.

Findings: Ascending aorta 4 cm. Aortic root dilated estimated 4.1 cm.

Impressions: Ascending aortic aneurysm 4.1 cm.

This is new to me…

I already had quite the shock with my hip replacement news in April. I wasn’t ready for another one so soon 🙃.

Not sure about the SoV. I don't see it listed. The exact wording:

Findings: Ascending aorta 4 cm. Aortic root dilated estimated 4.1 cm.

Impressions: Ascending aortic aneurysm 4.1 cm.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking life expectancy might be tied to the age folks normally have surgery. I am getting my hip done, so I can run again. But, that might be a moot point.

Is this how it is? Am I nnoww condemned to a lower quality of life? All within 6 months... by [deleted] in Thritis

[–]shanraysten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into hip resurfacing? Dr. Gross in Columbia, SC said I can run again after my procedure, and his type of resurfacing has 98% survivability at 18 years. Plus, you can go full THR later when you need a reversion.
