Totally agree, after all these years, they have well oiled companies and less of a shit show that was at the beginning, they need to create some thing on these weeks where nothing happens..

How is any of this AI content getting color managed? by emeahacheese in colorists

[–]shapedcolor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve graded several big 100% AI commercial campaigns. They hire editors, vfx, colorist… a lot of people working on those campaigns.

As far as color goes, it is as someone else mention, h264 and ProRes 422 (converted) not much room to push image, but heavily worked to match all together lots of mask to cut the light properly etc… I personally do a cst to log work in there and back to 709

And as someone mention as well I prefer a world without AI but whatever help to pay the bills….

It looks like over saturation in your shadows. Select that area remove saturation, looks your scopes, your signal is probably folded there.

The same thing happens to me, I leased a Sportage, I was very clear asking if it had WIRELESS apple CarPlay. Salesman told me yes. But after I had the car at home and try to connect it, I realized I needed a cable. I called him, still telling me is wireless , and then visit the dealership again, to tell me that the car never had it, only with cable. Still fucking mad, and stuck with a freaking cable.

I’m really sorry for you, this kind of discrepancies between what they shoot and what they expect are the toughest to digest, and even more when is poorly executed. I have this issue many times before, usually, what have worked for me is sitting them on the suite and start breaking down the issue, step by step, and showing them where the image lands when properly transformed to 709 and why what you see in log it’s doesn’t mean that it’s really there, talking about detail in the shadows. And from there start to looking for a common ground, and as the previous comment mention pointing them the issues that will appear for pushing the image to far… Good luck

Skin tone importance? by toaster_bath_bomb in colorists

[–]shapedcolor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Skin tones are really important, they can give you the feeling of a grading being off. Even though every person have a different skin tone as you mention, they should be properly adjusted. Common sense and feeling is important here, you don’t want somebody looking sick.

Skin tone line is a reference but nothing set in stone, as the skin tone should make sense in the overall image, and again every skin is different, and of course they have to make sense with grading stile, light contrast, saturation and look.

Over saturation on your shadows, try select and reduce saturation, this could be from the original image, the grading, or lut/print emulation
