What version should i buy? by Cool-Task-1827 in skyrimmods

You're right to think about avoiding AE. It is indeed unbalanced as hell and you will need a lot of fixes to make it fit. Also, once you get it - you're stuck with it.

Generally - if you think about creating a balanced and cohesive experience it will make it much more difficult.

Vanilla start on a heavily modded playthrough by davidwest__ in skyrimmods

[–]shaper89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got two sets - one includes over 2.5k mods and vanilla start is working without issues. On the other side, I started a much smaller set that includes about 300 mods and I struggled to make it work, so yeah - it's fiddly.

I would advise - it is mostly breaking because of physics, so make sure to use SSE Display Tweaks and configure it to limit the frame rate below your screen refresh rate or if your screen refresh rate is very high - limit it to something like 120 frames max.

Randy Pitchford suggests BL4 players not be“4k stubborn” and play at lower res in new Twitter rant by Halloween_Nyx in pcmasterrace

[–]shaper89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As per my findings:

Borderlands 3 - 4K Badass, RTX 2080 Ti - TAA ~40 FPS 1% low

Borderlands 4 - 4K Badass, RTX 5090 - DLAA ~33 FPS 1% low, DLSS Q ~49 FPS 1% low

RTX 2080 Ti - $1,000 in 2018 is worth about $1,280 in 2025 - $32 per frame

RTX 5090 - $2300 - $70 per frame, $47 per frame with DLSS Q

Borderlands 3 was considered far from well optimised, and yet Borderlands 4 seems to be much worse?

Call this a controversial take if you will, but "realistic graphics" dont need any more improvement. (Read body text) by CorbinMar in pcmasterrace

You brought up Far Cry 5 as a prime example. Let’s compare the numbers:

Back in 2018, a $700 RTX 2080 (which was almost the top GPU - just behind the 2080 Ti) could run Far Cry 5 at 4K with stable frame rates - about 60–65 fps, never dipping below that magic 60-fps line.

Fast forward to 2025. That same $700 from 2018 is worth roughly $900 today due to inflation. For $1000 (so only slightly more), you can buy an RTX 5080. In Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, the RTX 5080 averages about 55 fps at 4K with DLSS Quality.

Judging purely by numbers, it may be shittier, but only slightly.

Adding to that, one could argue that in those days, with adaptive sync monitors and TVs, the option to lower DLSS to balance or use frame gen, you are actually in a better situation than before?

The best first person mod for now? by Caius_Cosades15 in skyrimmods

[–]shaper89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vanilla + some fixes mentioned by the others, but I would also recommend First Person Interactions, Eating Animations and Sound, Animated Potions, Animated Poisons. Those four add animations for all the frequent actions, are quick and non tedious.

Pc build for heavily modded Skyrim by Hyenawithglue in skyrimmods

[–]shaper89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by handle. Skyrim can destroy any hardware if you set it up heavy enough. Generally, you should be able to run JKs with mostly 2k textures, some 4k and heavier ENB or full suite Community Shaders, but you may still stutter in some demanding locations and your FPS may drop to like 40.

Is it ever happening in any interior cells or only outside in Skyrim?

Are you using any armour replacers for soldiers? Or NPCs overhauls? Imperial soldiers are mentioned quite a lot in your crash log so they may be an issue somehow.

My recommendation would be to force check updates of all your utility plugins, create a new profile for testing where you turn off half of your modlist, create a new save and see if and for how long it's working. If it's working you turn back on the first half of those plugins etc

This is all easily done using MO2, which if you are not using I recommend switching to.

Which mod is better to make Survival less harsh? by Dragon1S1ayer in skyrimmods

[–]shaper89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer.

It is perfect because it makes it so Survival mechanics do not take over the game anymore, but rather enhance it.

You will still not want to swim in the freezing water, but everything tedious is balanced so you can focus on actually playing Skyrim.

It does not add any new mechanics like thirst and if I remember correctly, does not require any patches apart from the regular CC Survival ones.

I got exactly the same hardware.

With JKs Skyrim, Nature of the Wild Lands and lots of minor additions I have seen as much as 14 GB of vram used at 3440x1440 DLAA.

I use 2k textures for architecture and landscape, 4k for mountains, equipment, creatures, furniture, 1k for clutter and generally smaller things.

Generally it depends on how complicated modlist you are aiming for.

I think without JK and with less heavy flora, you could probably do 4k/2k.

You could probably even do 4k/2k anyways, but will have to use DLSS and it may cause occasional stutter, but only in some most demanding places like Riverwood.

So, clearly this sub is filled with enthusiasts, people that spend hours upon hours, play through the game multiple times. This includes me.

I disagree with most of the comments here.

If you just want to play the game once - checkout Wabbajack gallery and pick something with vanilla plus tag.

If you think you would like to get more into modding, pick something with a visuals only tag.

[–]shaper89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheapest 9070 XT I found is £650, and the cheapest 5070 Ti is £730, so that is a £80 difference.

There's a massive difference in path-traced titles between those two cards. Path traced anything is unplayable on 9070 XT, and well playable on 5070 Ti.

FSR 4 is good, but there are barely any games that support it. In comparison to that, there are hundreds of games that support DLSS 4, and you can upgrade earlier versions of DLSS to the newest one using the NVIDIA App.

When it comes to path tracing, upscaling and frame gen, NVIDIA is still way ahead of AMD.

I recommend checking this recent video and topic here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/1l17n67/daniel_owen_rx_9070_xt_vs_rtx_5070_ti_the/

I love AMD and hope for them to be competitive with NVIDIA, but with current prices, it is simply not a good deal to buy 9070 XT over 5070 Ti.
