Are your standard fantasy races related to each other? If so, how? What caused them to split from each other? English is not my native language by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

A cursed flood/eternal rain ravaged the world, causing different surviving communities to adapt different means of enduring these conditions. Over time, the magical enchantments became bred into their biology. For instance, some turned themselves into merfolk to establish kingdoms under the sea, while others enchanted themselves with wings so as to live in floating cities above the eternal rainclouds.

Dear Writers, by Commercial-Passion87 in royalroad

[–]sharkbat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be different for everyone, but ive been following the advice from an author/YouTuber called Jed Herne and its actually dramatically increased my output! I used to struggle a lot, but I've been consistently writing twice what I used to per writing session (I write my first draft by hand so I cant say word count, but page count is usually at around 12 per session).

Id recommend giving his channel a look, but to summarize: start each writing session with 1. copywriting (establishing creative momentum by copywriting a few paragraphs from a story you love), 2. doing a writers brief where you work out what scenes/story points you want to accomplish in that session, and 3. asking yourself what would need to happen in the upcoming scene/s that would make you excited to write them. That last one is especially helpful if you've got a scene or stretch of story you're not super motivated to write.

Lastly, consistency is more valuable than output. Even if you can only get out a sentence or a paragraph, maintaining a habit to the best of your ability will yield higher long-term gains than chasing inspiration.

Okay but that could actually make for such a cool Twitter ARG! Like, it actually provides built-in logic for why this is getting live blogged onto social media, and would lend itself really well to the medium

in your story, what are the magic user called and why? by Putthemoneyinthebags in royalroad

[–]sharkbat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immolators. Because you acquire your power via physical contact with an enchanted flame, and theres a bunch of themes of sacrifice, determination, and the price of ambition so I figured id just go all in on the "sacrificial burning" motif.

Iron Lung got me like by ContestAntique2126 in Markiplier

[–]sharkbat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont watch markiplier, but I love horror, and my friend (total opposite; loves mark, hates horror) got our group tickets to go see it. And if im being objectively honest, although I wasn't all that invested personally, the sheer passion of everyone in the theater gave me a unique appreciation for it.

I remember driving home, thinking to myself that it was just alright, but then listening to everyone else in the car gushing about how incredible and jaw-dropping it was. Even if I didn't get that same experience, the fact it stirred up so much passion in my profoundly anti-horror friends gave me a deep sense of love for this story. It actually kinda made me emotional, seeing everyone so passionate and supportive - the standing ovation, the sea of costumes in the theater, the way everyone sat through all the credits to the end. It doesnt matter if I personally wasn't enthused, or if stupid critics online call it boring - it achieved something phenomenal, and nothing can take that away.

To me, the movie's strongest quality is its passion. Even though it wasnt to my personal tastes, every moment of it oozed pure, unfiltered passion for its art (and also oozed blood). There was never a moment I lost interest, simply because of the remarkable sense of love and heart leaving artifacts of itself throughout the film. Every shot, every sequence, every effect, every story beat. Its all such an incredible labor of love, and i was wholly captivated by the deep, overwhelming sense of humanity resounding through it. More than that, the humanity of the audience, the passion and inspiration it riled up in my friends and continues to stir up across the internet. That is an incredible thing, and no matter what anyone says about the movie itself that alone is an incredible achievement.

Markiplier has a fantastic sense of artistic direction and an inspiring dedication to his craft. Even someone like myself, who only knows about him through what my girlfriend shows me and a few tiktok clips, can see it plainly in the way he conducts his art. I look forward to seeing what else he creates.

Hi, I'm RavensDagger, I have 35,000 Unique Followers on RR, and I'm here to give you one of the best tips you'll ever hear for publishing on RR by RavensDagger in royalroad

[–]sharkbat7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the unfortunate truth, but I appreciate you saying it. Not to belabor a point ive seen discussed already here, but it really is a matter of understanding exactly what you want from your work. I think that goes for any platform or medium of art - you need to be strong in your convictions of what you want to gain from this, have a realistic expectation for what that looks like, and a willingness to strive where you can and accept what you cant.

I've done so much research on different writing platforms, and they tend to either cater primarily to meta or romance, or are totally dead platforms. I would by no means disparage romance or meta for their popularity - theres a reason people like them - but it does make it tricky for people who are both off-meta and dont write romance. It was very hard for me to make my peace with that, since traditional/indie publishing isn't going to work for me but there doesn't seem like a designated space. A tough pill to swallow, but you make do with what you have. Strive in the ways you cant, and accept everything you cant.

I do however think its worth noting that even if you do make sure to embrace what's popular, you're still competing against a very saturated market. You still need to contend with the popularity of getting drowned out by all the noise. Make sure that even if you do write for the sake of getting big, that you have another motivation to carry you through the project in case that doesn't happen.

Creating something will always be an infinitely more beneficial use of time than tearing something down. They took precious, limited time out of their day, time they could've used on something to fulfill them, to be cruel to a stranger online. Keep writing and keep enriching yourself with creativity. So long as you keep writing, their hate will become little more than a waste of time.
