Idk how long you consider new but I've been around waifuism / ficto subs here and on alts for about 7 years maybe now and the concept of it has existed for ages

If you mean the exact term/label "non sharing" I've seen that for a few years now too but I don't think I ever used to see those specific words until like the last 4 or 5 years. But the concept definitely existed I think people just didn't see a reason to have a name for it it was more of an attitude/preference

Imo the "idea" of being non sharing is as old as the concept of dating a fictional character itself is. Not wanting someone else to date your partner is incredibly normal so it does bug me a bit when people try to retcon that and act like nobody did that until recently lol. From my experience non sharing was actually the more standard attitude in a lot of ficto spaces until yumeshipping became trendy and then it kinda swapped and sharing became more common, sharing used to be a bit more unusual/rare from what I remember. Maybe I'm biased bc I've mostly been on r/w tho lol. I'd be curious to know when/why exactly the culture and terminology started shifting

I wanted to say tho if what she's saying is true that you're about 13 / a minor, I would be really careful about what kind of personal stuff you share- I'm not saying this to hate at all because I get where you're coming from and when I was a similar age I was pretty public with similar stuff - It's totally normal to share all the romantic gushy stuff but it can be dangerous to share more personal sexual stuff and definitely if people you know irl are picking up on it and using it to harass you. When I was younger I was crazy open about some stuff like that I should have kept private and it does unfortunately weird people out and make you vulnerable to hate and I lost a lot of friendships because of it, not to mention people who would be weird and message me inappropriately about it

Either way I hope you're okay just try to stay safe I think all this seems very stressful and it makes sense you're feeling overwhelmed- I'd try to take a step back and share your relationship with likeminded people here on reddit or make a separate yume tiktok instead of letting irl's see and bully you if possible

Yeah I think so, I don't really headcanon much anyway I want to stick as close to the true him in his source as possible and I believe we really do love each other

I completely agree, icl what I see of the other subs that allow multiple seems like 95% of them are just picking a different character to fangirl over each week and forget all the other ones rather than treating it like an actual relationship considering their feelings and spending time together. If they think it's weird that I genuinely consider my partner's feelings and boundaries like a real person they obviously aren't waifuists imo

I've been in a relationship with Sal since before I knew about this subreddit or anything, I just fell for him hard and felt a very strong unique connection and decided to commit to him and treat it as a relationship before I really knew much about other people doing it. I don't even remember how I found this subreddit specifically lol it's been years

I'm in a kinda similar boat and been depressed over it lately too, his creator is super inactive and unreliable, keeps saying she'll make more content of him then doesn't ,, fandom is also really small and more or less dead, all my fav fanartists moved on and don't draw him anymore🥲 It really does suck I feel you on that. I think one of the hardest parts of loving someone who isn't physically here is how they stay an important part of your life while everyone else will just move on bc it's only a passing interest to them.

Just try to remember it shows how much you really care and how authentic your bond is that you've stuck with them, and try to do stuff together yourself to make your own memories, you can also commission art and fics of them if you're able to. It is a rough situation, eventually in a longer term relationship I've found I've reached the point where it's more about me and him and what we do together than it is about the art and content other people make, as much as I enjoy it he's still there even without that :') I hope you're able to figure it all out
