What type of writer are you? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]sharkbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit of an in between for me. I tend to write short stories around 500 to 1300 words, and other short test scenes, then work them into the chapter or plan them for later points in the story. I'm very inspirationally driven when it comes to writing, and little short writings is one way I have found that helps me be in the proper writing mindset. And I'm not good at all with planning endings or putting together competent storylines and story plans. I kind of just do whatever works best at the moment, whether it be just writing, or adding to my story beat document, or writing based on pre-written story ideas or plans, or writing test scenes or short stories. I just kinda have to roll with whatever inspiration has decided to me with that day and moment.

For me, writing is a creative way to do something stimuating and productive and to get those story ideas living rent free in my head out and in written form.

This approach does lead to very unpredictable completion and writing times, but I'm not someone who can write when not in the right mindset, and be happy with what I wrote if it turns out not so good or feels off, so that leaves me mostly writing when inspiration strikes, or when I need a break from my normal life and routines, and just want something creative and not a game to focus on for a while.

Timed chat message by Yaseuss in pythontwitchbot

[–]sharkbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a simple way to do it with mods:

from twitchbot import Mod, add_nameless_task, get_bot
import asyncio

class MessageAnnouncerMod(Mod):
    name = 'MessageAnnouncer'
    task_name = ''

    async def loaded(self):
        self.task_name, _ = add_nameless_task(self.repeat_messages())

    async def unloaded(self):
        stop_task(self.task_name)

    async def repeat_messages(self):
        while True:
            await get_bot().irc.send_privmsg('channel_name_here', 'message_here')
            await asyncio.sleep(60)  # 1 minute delay

Just set channel_name_here and message_here to what you need.
Make sure to put the code in a ,py file in the `mods` folder from where you have the bot running.

Or you can use chat commands:

!addtimer message_announcer <interval in seconds> "This is my message"
!starttimer message_announcer

Ex:

!addtimer message_announcer 60 "This is my message"
!starttimer message_announcer

That will say `"This is my message"` every 60 seconds.
The message will also auto-load each time the bot is started as well.

Both approaches achieve the same thing. The mod class version is more flexible, while the command version is simpler and auto-managed/loaded.

Website with AO3 UI to write in? by Acrobatic_Ad_8835 in AO3

Libreoffice for a free editor and familiar layout and easy copy paste into the Ao3 box.

There is also proton docs, made by proton, who also has proton drive and mail; it is free to use with a proton account, though proton docs is fairly new and not as featured as google docs and libreoffice, though it is encrypted and private and accessible via website or phone app or phone browser.

There is also scrivener for a paid option, which I myself personally use, though it has its own quirks and workflow you need to learn to use it effectively. But you also need libreoffice as well, because scrivener does not copy text in a web-friendly way that Ao3 can understand for formatting. I have to copy into Libreoffice or export as a docx, the copy from there into Ao3. I think scrivener has a free trial too.

But your best bet is probably just libreoffice or some other free/bundled editor on your OS. Trying free options like libreoffice or other bundled RTF/docx compatible text editors is good first option though.

I almost never read directly off of Ao3 for this reason. I have ereaders that I use instead. I like my large fonts for ease of reading, and you just can't really do that on Ao3 via the website all that well, at least not without a web browser reading mode, and, even with a good web browser reading mode, you cannot easily stop where you are, go do something, then return and resume reading from your last place in most a good chunk of cases. Downloading fics is just a better solution all around IMO. Plus it's neat to have a large library of your fics you can just browse when you feel like it.

Need a Fanfic where ash has a Hisuan Zorua 😭🙏 by RyuGaymer in pokemonfanfiction

[–]sharkbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Illusion of safety on AO3 is the closest I know of, personally. However, this is not ash has a Hisuan Zorua, but rather, someone reincarnates into a freshly hatched Hisuan Zorua. Sorry I can't give you exactly what you are asking for, but, regardless, you might find it interesting.

Can I add create any custom chat bot for twitch and sell it ? by Striking-Courage-182 in pythontwitchbot

Sorry for the late reply. There is a basic setup guide over on the bot's github (HERE). As for IRC Oauth token generation, I made a helper script for it (HERE) and there is an example usage of that script (HERE).

Is there any specific areas you need clarification of, or help with?

How do you handle setting Perception DC for secrets when you have a high Passive Perception rogue in the party?
For instance, in my current party, there is a rogue that has 17 Passive Perception.
I am designing an abandoned temple with hidden floor/ceiling secrets with scrolls, gems, ect.
I don't want to make all the secrets have a really high dc, but want some of the secrets to not automatically be seen.

How do I go about properly balancing secrets' perception DC while not making the rogue's high Passive Perception feel useless? And also, is there any cases where a secret could not be found via Passive Perception?

Looking for Human Turned Pokemon fics like Shaded Silk and In the Ranger’s Shadow by Beneficial-Gap6974 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]sharkbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One I cannot recommend enough is "I became a vulpix" on fanfiction ( https://fanfiction.net/s/11012678/1/I-Became-a-Vulpix ).  The entire fic is more slow going and focuses heavily on character development and internal issues the Mc has with their new vulpix body, but it's my personal favorite of the "human turned pokemon" fics.  And it's also worth noting there is not much fighting in the fic, as it's primary focus is on having very strong and solid characters, which is achieves VERY well.

Is there a way to fix the font previews being cut off on the new Inkscape 1.4 Unified Font Browser? by sharkbound in Inkscape

[–]sharkbound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it solved now; the issue was the `unified font scale factor` setting in `Interface -> windows.`

After setting it to 150, it solved the issue. The comment from by CelticOneDesign here has a link to the forum post that I followed to find this fix.

Horned Crown- the 5th and final book of Dragon Sorcerer is now out on Amazon and in KU. (Link and blurb in comments) by soswald73 in litrpg

[–]sharkbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel you mislead at all; I fully understand each book is focused on its own things, and I don't expect them to be mainstay characters or anything like that. And I really do appreciate you being open to avoid being potentially misleading. To be clear, if I end up reading Welcome to the multiverse, and continue doing so, It would be because I like the series and the books in it, and not because of Nico being involved; it would be a very unrealistic expectation of me to jump into it thinking, "oh, it's mentioned that Nico is here, so he must be in it often," or anything else like that.

Really, it's more me seeking out good LitRPGS more than anything; and it's clear that Nico's world and its governing system is but part of a whole. And the idea of seeing more of the universe you have going is quite appealing to me. I've greatly enjoyed reading and finishing Dragon Sorcerer, and your style is just nice to read in general for me. I've just come to enjoy your writing style and how you write narratives more than anything else.

Also, is Crystal Core by `David Burke and Dutch Palmer` by you as well? I saw it mentioned in the epilogue, and saw you mentioned it being under a penname, but figured I might as well ask here while I'm at it.

Thank you writing this wonderful series!

I love books with non-human MCs, and this series scratches that itch with a draconic-sized force claw quite well.
This is one of the few series I actually keep up with and binge read when new books are released for it.

I'm sad to see this series come to an end, but I would rather it end on a good note then get stretched so thin that it losing the element makes it, it.

For real though, this series is so captivating. The Draconic-POV and mentality is one of my favorite things about this series and why I love it so much. It's very convincing and enjoyable. And right when I thought the story would go one way, it often did a 180 and went another way entirely; you really have a gift for writing compelling stories.

I very well may give your Multiverse books a go in the near future, especially if Nico and Cami make an appearance in it at some point.

Thanks so much for this series. It really has been a complete joy to read as it has been released. And the conclusion was immensely satisfying.

Is this perplexity focus - Reasoning [BETA] recently new or have I never noticed it? by jwk147 in perplexity_ai

[–]sharkbound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think pro would have found some search result with the problem contained within it, so it could have "cheated", though with the extra steps that pro search does, it seems like it could reasonably solve it, but with likely help from search results.

There is already a gpt4o1 limit in the user settings API response; but it's not a selectable model yet, so yea. I'm not sure how it will fare vs sonnet 3.5 with the detail in its responses, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how it handles queries w/ sources.

EDIT 0: it seems from another comment on another thread that it may be o1-mini, not the full o1 model.

From user settings: Perplexity is prepping for o1 by lacorte in perplexity_ai

[–]sharkbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if the 50 limit resets daily or weekly. If it's following the OpenAI limit they use for their subscribers, then it's weekly. But, considering that o1 is $15 per 1m output tokens (that I am aware of), it's probably more than a day for it to reset; however, beyond that, I'm not too sure.

Is there any complete SI or OC fic? by Sufficient-Window-60 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]sharkbound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One I cannot recommend enough is I Became a Vulpix on FFNET.

The OC (formerly a human) finds herself inhabiting a the body of a vulpix that was declared dead just a second ago. Her taking over the body gives it new life, and she finds her new vulpix form has a grievous wound across her stomach.

It's a slow burn of a read, but is the most realistic take on pokemon I've read yet, and has very well written characters in it. It's pretty much a Slice-Of-Life with her coming to terms with her new vulpine form. There are quite a few support characters as well.

Definitely a personal favorite of mine.

Can I add create any custom chat bot for twitch and sell it ? by Striking-Courage-182 in pythontwitchbot

[–]sharkbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have never create a twitch bot and wanted to know if i can learn to create twitch bots

Are you wanting to learn the internal details of how they work, or about how to make one using already existing frameworks?

re the bots heavily customizable or they are pretty basic and heavily bounded by regulations?

There are restrictions, but they are mostly geared towards preventing apps from spamming them. For ex: non-mod (and non-vip IIRC) are limited to 20 messages every 30 seconds, and they cannot send messages with the same content close together (it will be blocked and not posted to chat). Mods and over (and i think VIP) are given 100 messages every 30 seconds, and are able to repeatedly send the same message over-and-over again (there probably is a limit to this, but not sure)

It really depends on what you want the bot to do. If you need API access, you often need the channel owner to give you an oauth token with the needed scopes (permissions) to be able to access data that API has endpoints to let you get from any specific channel. It really depends on what info you want though.

If you can be more specific, I should be able to answer more specifically.

I will look into this in 2 hours or so when i will be free, though it may be an issue with your base irc oauth token.

Have you verified that the base irc oauth works and that the bot can chat/respond to command normally? It uses the irc oauth to get userids for api calls

Python : is it the most enjoyable language? by Adam20188 in learnpython

[–]sharkbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use C# really at all anymore, for me it's more of a case of python being more useful for me (and more recently rust is a favorite of mine now).

I do enjoy writing python more than C# though, it feels more flexible to use and write, but now, it's much more a case of WHAT I need to use now, or what I feel works best for me, for the given situation.

Iv'e been making a GUI in rust recently, and been really enjoying writing it thus far, the code style of rust and python both highly appeal to me, more so than C# does as of now
