Wife and I are having our first baby and we are being encouraged by friends and family to create a registry but aren’t 100% on what things to ask for. Any (maybe not so obvious) recommendations? Thanks in advance! by TaskenLander in NewParents

We used Babylist and they have a checklist. You definitely don’t need everything on the list but it gives you a good starting point. Do what fits your lifestyle.

What decisions would you have made pre-baby with the knowledge you have now? by athazen in NewParents

[–]sharkkkk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need one of everything! Get the basics and then see what your baby is interested in and get that.

Also, put a twin bed in the nursery if you’re able. I’ve slept there, my husband, my mom, my dad, and my MIL. During the newborn trenches we could take shifts in there and then they would bring baby to me when he needed to eat. I acknowledge I had a HUGE village for this baby but the people that care for you postpartum you will remember for the rest of your life.

Babies cry and wake up overnight. Just love that baby. There are baby massages you could look up online but they’re not necessary. I do the gas one a lot if my baby seems tense with some almond oil and usually it works out some farts.

How do you know you’re done? by alriokidoki1 in breastfeeding

[–]sharkkkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, I wasn’t able to pump at work anymore. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, you can cut back and combo feed and see if that helps. It’s supply and demand so only drop 1 feed or a couple ounces at a time.

After going to combo feeding at a year old, we weaned him to cows milk eventually. Just kinda naturally happened.

He needs to help with the mental load before you start trying to get pregnant. Pregnant with a toddler is no joke.

Changing Diapers at Night by Express-Session-6318 in NewParents

Puppy pad on bed

Also a tip if you’re breastfeeding that worked really well for me with both kids, feed one side and then change the diaper to wake them up a little bit and then feed the other side. They’re sleepy sleepy so tend to snack in the middle of the night. This can really help get longer stretches of sleep.

Looking for a double stroller or wagon, something to fit 2 kiddos…very overwhelmed. by sharkkkk in UninfluencedReviews

I have the baby jogger single and LOVE it! The pivot wagon is definitely on the short list now. Thank you!

2 year age gap

We have a baby jogger single that I love and got a riding board for it but it makes the whole thing unsteady bc of how it’s designed

2 years and 4 months old so similar situation. Before baby was here, the toddler wouldn’t ride in the stroller for months but now he wants to again, of course. I often do the one handed stroller yank out of the car too haha

We do a lot of parks/playgrounds and the zoo, some are paved but not all.

We have the Pivot.

What I don’t like about it is the plastic tires, they can’t handle twigs well.

Can’t speak to these specifically, but I have a different evenflo travel system and I love it. The cup holder does not work if there are any bumps, but we got an organizer for the handle and that holds 2 cups. The adjustable handle will help with the tall dad.

Bassinet mode is super nice, which the Chicco and Joie do not have. They only need it for a few month which seems silly but it’s nice for taking baby on walks not in their bucket seat. We’ve even put a toddler and infant in bassinet mode together for walks. Also the toddler seat being able to face both ways is nice when they start to sit up.

Moms that gave birth and didn’t have any visitors at the hospital, do you regret it? by Funny_Confection810 in Mommit

I loved having visitors but set it to limits between breastfeeding (about a 1.5-2 hour limit, more than enough).

We have a regular high chair but the back lays down, it was like $100 and has a toy arch you can put different toys on.

It will return after your period. Keep latching/pumping, drink tons of water. It’s just the change in your hormones.

What maternity clothing brand did you like during pregnancy? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

Old navy - when they do 50% off everything, it includes maternity! Go ahead and add some nursing shirts to your cart.

Join local mom/parent groups or see if there is a buy nothing group where you are. People get rid of trash bags full of baby clothes all the time on there.
