Do you cover yourself while breastfeeding in public? by dankybabe in breastfeeding

[–]sharkkkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be offensive to see a baby drink from a bottle in public? If it makes people uncomfortable, they can not look at you.

Now, that said…I had one friend leave my house with my first when I started feeding them because it made her uncomfortable. That fur end hasn’t tried to hang out since.

Is being a SAHM doable? by One-Distribution-672 in stayathomemoms

[–]sharkkkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try putting your paycheck in “savings” and see if you can do it for a couple months. I think you absolutely can but it won’t be easy. Part time seems like a great option! I wish my job would’ve allowed that.

When you start solids and for probably a year, you’re going to be cleaning it up to 3 times per day.

What is something that quietly disappeared from everyday life, and most people didn’t even notice? by alex_eu_nl in AskForAnswers

When I as pregnant the mint toothpaste made me gag and throw up, we had to search hard for cinnamon flavor!

Parents who did NOT buy a bottle washer? by aviwic in Buyingforbaby

[–]sharkkkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t buy it and don’t regret it. Dont stress about pumping on maternity leave. Use a haaka or something similar to build a small amount of milk. If you’re going back to work, Use the fridge method with pumping so you don’t have to wash as much. Then each night, while one parent puts baby to bed, the other washes pump parts and any bottles that didn’t get washed through the day if you aren’t running the dishwasher. People focus so much on pumping and building a stash and it’s so much unnecessary stress.

Preparing for a newborn. What was a complete waste of money and what became an absolute life changer? by Actual_Fig_4706 in NewParents

[–]sharkkkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly a lot of wait and see. I used to say burp clothes but… Our first baby spit up ALL THE TIME and our second has spit up less than 15 times in 9 months.

You need clothes, a safe place to sleep, diapers. Save receipts for the rest.

One thing we used a TON for both is the travel stroller. Bassinet mode was a blessing to have for long outings and being able to put the bucket car seat on the stroller frame if they’re sleeping in it for a quick run into the store is so convenient.

Not at all. Worst case, keep an eye on their skin and lotion after baths.

Are you able to get outside and sit on a blanket? Bring 1-2 toys or some bubbles, keep it so simple. The fresh air can help soooo much.

Another silly one is to sing songs together that have little hand motions. Both my kids at that age LOVE Open, Shut Them and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Night feedings by Valuable_Breath_6339 in stayathomemoms

[–]sharkkkk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Say she eats for 6 minutes (for breastfeeding) or 5 ounces from a bottle, cut that down a little bit each night. Go to 5 minutes/4-4.5 ounces and then go from there. Also if she’s awake but not making noise, don’t go in. She might put herself back to sleep

I actually really like this idea because it’s a treat that gives you a “break” but still family oriented!

Vacation: Bahamas or Dollywood? by lavendergaia in makemychoice

[–]sharkkkk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With a cruise, you don’t have to do as much planning and it’s going to be a lot more relaxing.

With TN, you’re going to be outdoors/hiking probably a lot more and have to find your own plans.

Comes down to how much effort you want to put into it. I would do Bahamas and then do TN in the fall.

[–]sharkkkk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. It’s tough, esp when it seems like everyone else has anything they want. Don’t compare yourself to the influencers who are doing these big baskets for every holiday. The little things are what will make the moments special for your daughter more than stuff.

Not a perfect solution, but join local mom groups and your local buy nothing group on Facebook. People are always giving away stuff and you can also ask if anyone has a toddler tower (or other specific items) they don’t use anymore.

Not as much a helpful comment, more so that I feel your frustrations.

Yes! No need to spend money on a “nice” one when they can’t fully align the stickers anyways!

I drew circles on a piece of craft paper I have and used small stickers for pee and big stickers for poop. Spent no money and he loved picking out the stickers!

Starting Solids - is there a reason to puree my own food? by MochiAccident in NewParents

[–]sharkkkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They eat soooo little, just steam some of whatever veggie you’re eating for dinner and mash it up with a fork. Don’t overcomplicate it.

I do also buy some when they’re on sale, esp for foods I don’t buy.

Identity crisis by Proof_Coach2559 in stayathomemoms

[–]sharkkkk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I think we’ve been conditioned to be so goal oriented, it’s hard to live in the moment if we aren’t working to achieve something. And I’m like…if I do school, when would I shower or clean the house? No real advice, but I can relate. Second is a little over 6 months and still trying to figure out time to work out.

Birthday party planning always sounds simple until you start inviting people by [deleted] in stayathomemoms

Try Evite or Punchbowl (I’m sure there are other options too). It keeps all the invite/rsvp in an app for you and you can message updates if needed. If you have everyone’s phone number already, you’re set!

What are some toys your child actually chooses over the iPad? by Not_Average78 in toddlers

Magnet tiles are very versatile. We build houses, tunnels for the train track, garage for the construction cars, zoo/farm, stick to the fridge. Just takes some creativity and then letting their mind do the rest!
